Oris has found a surprisingly natural fit for The Great Gonzo.
The new ProPilot X Gonzo Edition brings Disney’s The Muppets back into the brand’s watchmaking world for a third collaboration, following earlier Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy editions. This time, the character work sits inside one of Oris’s most technical modern watches rather than simply living on the dial.

Gonzo meets Oris’s most architectural pilot watch
The choice of platform matters here.
Rather than using a more conventional case and adding a character motif, Oris has placed Gonzo inside the ProPilot X Calibre 115, a watch already defined by sharp geometry, visible mechanics and a large-format presence on the wrist.
The multi-piece titanium case measures 44mm across, 12.6mm thick and 52mm lug to lug, so this is not a discreet Muppets cameo.
Its faceted surfaces, integrated titanium bracelet and modern pilot-watch architecture give the edition a technical base that suits Gonzo’s eccentric stuntman energy better than a softer dress-watch format would.
The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres and uses a domed sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective coating, along with a titanium caseback fitted with sapphire crystal.
A dial built around colour and character
The skeletonised dial carries the collaboration most openly, with a gradient palette moving through blue, red and yellow in a nod to Gonzo’s look and wardrobe.
Oris has also used a laser-textured chapter ring that shifts visually between metallic tones and rainbow-like colour, giving the watch more movement even before the hands are considered.
The non-linear power reserve display at 3 o’clock receives the most obvious character flourish.
Instead of a standard hand, the indicator is shaped like a chilli pepper, a small but specific detail linked to one of Gonzo’s familiar outfits.
The scale marks the Calibre 115’s long running time in “GREAT” days, which is exactly the sort of light touch that keeps the watch from becoming too earnest.
The mainspring hides the best trick
The most interesting detail is tucked into the open barrel at 12 o’clock.
Oris has laser-etched tiny markings onto the edge of the 1.8-metre mainspring, using the coils themselves as part of the character reveal.
As the watch is wound and the coils tighten, those markings align to form Gonzo’s smiling face.
As the mainspring unwinds, the image gradually disappears again, turning the 10-day power reserve into a mechanical animation rather than a static decoration.
It’s a clever use of the Calibre 115’s architecture because the joke only works through the movement’s exposed barrel and long mainspring.

The ProPilot X Gonzo Edition works because the character detail isn’t treated as an afterthought.
It’s still a large, hand-wound, titanium skeleton watch with serious mechanical intent, but it now has a sense of mischief that feels unusually well matched to the hardware.
