MB&F has introduced two new Longhorn editions of its Legacy Machine line, pairing elongated lugs with stainless steel cases and two of the brand’s most technically significant movements.
The LM Perpetual Longhorn and LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn arrive as limited editions of 20 pieces each, both priced at CHF 168,000 before VAT.
Long lugs return to the Legacy Machine case
The Longhorn idea reaches back to the early development of the Legacy Machine concept, when extended lugs were considered as a more dramatic alternative to the standard case profile.
Here, the effect is deliberately architectural, giving the round Legacy Machine case a sharper stance without moving the watches away from MB&F’s familiar three-dimensional language.
Both models use stainless steel, a relatively uncommon choice for MB&F’s higher-complication Legacy Machines, and both share rhodium-plated base plates, glossy black lacquer sub-dials and blued hands.
The LM Perpetual Longhorn revisits Stephen McDonnell’s calendar
The LM Perpetual Longhorn carries MB&F’s celebrated perpetual calendar movement, developed with Stephen McDonnell and first introduced in 2015.
Its architecture places the complication on the dial side and uses a mechanical processor with an integrated safety system, an approach designed to avoid the traditional fragility associated with many perpetual calendar mechanisms.
The 44mm stainless steel case measures 17.5mm thick and is water resistant to 30 metres, while the manually wound movement comprises 581 components, runs at 2.5Hz and offers a 72-hour power reserve.
The display includes hours, minutes, day, date, month, retrograde leap year and power reserve, arranged around the suspended balance that has become a signature of the Legacy Machine family.
The Sequential Flyback Longhorn brings dual chronograph theatre
The LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn adapts the dual chronograph platform that helped the LM Sequential win the Aiguille d’Or at the 2022 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.
Also developed with Stephen McDonnell, the manually wound calibre uses a pair of chronograph systems and MB&F’s Twinverter switch, allowing the wearer to operate multiple timing modes from the same watch.
Its stainless steel case is 44mm wide and 18.2mm thick, with 30 metres of water resistance, while the movement contains 619 components, 63 jewels, beats at 3Hz and stores 72 hours of power.
As expected from MB&F, both Longhorn models feature traditional high-end finishing, including polished bevels, Geneva waves, internal angles and hand engraving.
A rare steel pairing for MB&F collectors
These watches are not subtle, but the Longhorn treatment does not feel ornamental for its own sake.
The extended lugs give two already complex Legacy Machines a more assertive wrist presence, while the black lacquer and rhodium combination keeps the visual tone disciplined.
With only 20 examples of each model, the LM Perpetual Longhorn and LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn are aimed squarely at collectors who already understand MB&F’s place in contemporary independent watchmaking and want one of its complications in a rarer, more characterful case execution.
