Longines has introduced the Legend Diver 59, a new take on its long-running vintage-inspired diver that brings the collection back to the 42mm case size tied to the model’s 1959 origins.
The Legend Diver has become one of Longines’ defining modern watches, not simply because it looks backward, but because it helped shape the current appetite for historically minded sports watches.
A 42mm compressor-style case with historical intent
The Legend Diver 59 uses a 42mm case, matching both the earliest modern reissue and the original late-1950s watch that informs the line.

That size gives the watch a more assertive presence than the recent 39mm Legend Diver models, especially with the collection’s long, substantial lugs.
For collectors who prefer the compact 39mm execution, this will naturally feel like the larger sibling, but the 42mm format has always been part of the Legend Diver’s identity.
A matte dial with aged details
The Legend Diver 59 separates itself visually with a matte, finely textured dial that gives the watch a drier and more tool-like character than the glossier executions elsewhere in the range.

Sandblasted hands and indices add to that softer vintage effect, while the warm lume tone leans into the idea of a diver that has lived a long life without turning the design into costume.
Longines L888.6 movement and 300-meter rating
Inside is the Longines-exclusive ETA L888.6 automatic caliber, a COSC-certified movement with a 72-hour power reserve.
The movement also uses a silicon balance spring for improved resistance to magnetism, a practical upgrade that fits the watch’s everyday-sports-watch brief.

The case is 12.85mm thick and rated to 300 meters of water resistance, keeping the Legend Diver 59 firmly in functional dive-watch territory despite its vintage design language.
Mesh bracelet and pricing
Longines offers the Legend Diver 59 on its newer mesh bracelet, a pairing that feels especially natural on this case shape and reinforces the period-correct personality of the watch.
Retail pricing is set at $4,100, placing it above the more broadly positioned HydroConquest and suggesting that Longines sees this model as the enthusiast-facing, heritage-led option in its dive-watch catalog.

The Legend Diver 59 will likely appeal most to collectors who have always preferred the full-size version of the model and want the strongest link yet between the modern Legend Diver and its 1959 inspiration.
