Longines Brings Matte Blue Dials to the Spirit Pilot Line

Longines is sharpening the identity of its Spirit Pilot collection with a new blue chapter for 2026.

The update brings matte blue dials to the compact Spirit Pilot and Spirit Pilot Flyback, with the chronograph adding a matching blue ceramic bezel insert.

It’s a measured expansion rather than a reinvention, but it gives one of Longines’ strongest modern families a cooler, more technical look.

The standard Spirit Pilot keeps the compact format introduced with the more focused 2025 design.

Its stainless-steel case measures 39mm across, 11.5mm thick and 47.4mm lug to lug, which keeps the watch firmly in everyday territory rather than oversized pilot-watch nostalgia.

The dial is the main change.

Longines uses a matte blue surface with applied rhodium-plated Arabic numerals, rhodium-plated hands and Super-LumiNova for low-light legibility.

A railroad minute track runs around the outside, while a secondary ring with rhomboid markers picks out the five-second intervals.

The central seconds hand echoes that detail with a rhomboid tip, giving the dial a little graphic character without compromising readability.

There’s no date window, which suits the watch well.

The absence of a date keeps the dial balanced and lets the chronometer wording take the place traditionally occupied by the automatic designation.

The Flyback adds a blue ceramic countdown bezel

The Spirit Pilot Flyback receives the more substantial visual shift.

Its 39.5mm stainless-steel case is paired with a bidirectional rotating bezel and a blue ceramic countdown insert, creating a stronger instrument-watch feel than the three-hand model.

At 13.4mm thick and 47.4mm lug to lug, it remains notably compact for a mechanical flyback chronograph.

The box-shaped sapphire crystal brings a vintage profile to the case, while the transparent screw-down sapphire back shows the hand-wound movement.

The blue dial keeps the familiar two-register layout, with running seconds at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock.

Silvered hands and applied Arabic numerals with Super-LumiNova maintain the high-contrast aviation look that defines the wider Spirit family.

Two COSC movements with modern resilience

The three-hand Spirit Pilot runs on the Longines calibre L888.4, an automatic movement developed exclusively for the brand.

It operates at 25,200 vibrations per hour, uses a silicon balance spring and offers a 72-hour power reserve.

The Spirit Pilot Flyback uses the hand-wound calibre L792.4, a column-wheel flyback chronograph movement developed for Longines.

It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, also uses a silicon balance spring and delivers up to 68 hours of power reserve.

Both movements are COSC-certified, which matters here because the Spirit line has always tried to balance vintage aviation cues with current technical expectations.

Bracelet and rubber strap options

Each blue model is offered either on a stainless-steel bracelet or on a blue rubber strap.

The bracelet uses a double safety folding clasp with micro-adjustment, while the rubber strap has a pin buckle and an easy-change system.

The rubber option feels especially suited to the matte blue dials, giving the watches a more contemporary and slightly sportier stance than leather would.

Water resistance is rated to 100 metres on both models, supported by a screw-in crown on the Spirit Pilot and screw-down casebacks across the line.
