Longines Brings Its Sharper Master Collection Design to New Chronographs

Longines is giving the Master Collection a more coherent shape, and the latest additions show how far that redesign is meant to reach.

After refreshing the simpler three-hand models earlier this year, the brand has now carried the same visual language into two chronographs, including the first monopusher chronograph to join the collection.

It’s a meaningful move for a family that has been central to Longines’ modern mechanical watchmaking since 2005.

A monopusher chronograph joins the Master Collection

The Master Collection Chrono Monopusher is the headline addition, not least because this is the first single-pusher chronograph in the range.

Its chronograph functions are all controlled through one button integrated into the crown, giving the watch a cleaner case profile than a conventional two-pusher chronograph.

Longines has paired that old-world layout with a pulsometer scale, allowing the wearer to calculate heart rate after timing 30 beats.

That detail gives the watch a direct link to early medical chronographs, when doctors used mechanical timing instruments long before digital monitoring became standard.

The watch is sized at 41mm in stainless steel, with a thickness of 12.6mm and a 48.6mm lug-to-lug measurement.

Its concave bezel aligns it with the newer Master Collection design language, while the two-register dial keeps the display balanced rather than overloaded.

Running seconds sit at 9 o’clock, with a 30-minute chronograph counter positioned at 3 o’clock.

Two dial versions are available, each taking the collection’s familiar barleycorn texture in a different direction.

The silver opaline version uses polished rhodium-plated numerals and hands, while the frosted blue version is finished with rose-gold-plated detailing.

Both dials use snail-finished counters and a sandblasted outer ring, giving the surface enough contrast to separate the timing scale from the central pattern.

Inside is the Longines calibre L799.5, a manual-winding column-wheel chronograph movement visible through the sapphire caseback.

It uses a silicon balance spring and offers a 68-hour power reserve.

The historical connection is more than decorative, as Longines’ early monopusher wrist chronographs date back to 1911, followed by the compact calibre 13.33Z in 1913.

For a collection often associated with traditional complications, the new monopusher feels like a natural fit rather than an outlier.

The Chrono Moonphase settles into a 41mm case

The Master Collection Chrono Moonphase also returns in a more focused form, now housed in a 41mm stainless-steel case.

That places it neatly between the previous 40mm and 42mm versions, while matching the diameter of the new Chrono Monopusher.

The case measures 13.8mm thick and 48.6mm lug to lug, so this remains a substantial complicated watch, but the proportions are more unified within the collection.

The dial is silver with a barleycorn pattern, applied blue Arabic numerals and blued steel hands.

There’s a lot of information on display, but Longines keeps the layout familiar to those who know the model.

The 9 o’clock counter combines small seconds with a 24-hour indication, while the 12 o’clock register houses the 30-minute chronograph counter along with day and month windows.

At 6 o’clock, the 12-hour chronograph totaliser frames the moonphase display.

The watch is powered by the Longines calibre L687.5, an automatic integrated column-wheel chronograph movement with a silicon balance spring and a 66-hour power reserve.

It’s offered on either a blue alligator leather strap or the redesigned stainless-steel bracelet, both fitted with micro-adjustable folding clasps.

New dial treatments for the three-hand models

The chronographs are joined by new variations across the simpler Master Collection models in 30mm, 34mm, 39mm and 41mm sizes.

For the 30mm and 34mm steel watches, Longines adds frosted blue sunray dials set with 11 Top Wesselton diamonds.

Two-tone yellow-gold-capped and rose-gold-capped bracelet versions also arrive with white mother-of-pearl dials and diamond indexes.

The larger 39mm and 41mm models receive light blue barleycorn dials with applied Arabic numerals and rhodium-plated hands.

Those two sizes are available on anthracite alligator straps or stainless-steel bracelets.

The 30mm watches use the automatic calibre L592.5, which offers up to 45 hours of power reserve.

The 34mm, 39mm and 41mm models are powered by the automatic calibre L888.5, running at 3.5Hz with up to 72 hours of reserve.

All of the three-hand additions feature silicon balance springs, date windows at 3 o’clock and sapphire display casebacks.

The updated bracelets also use shorter links, a small but practical change that should help the watches sit more naturally on a wider range of wrists.

What stands out is the way Longines is tightening the Master Collection without stripping away its breadth.

The line still covers dressy three-hand watches, moonphase calendars and chronographs, but the revised proportions, dial textures and bracelet details make it feel more deliberate than sprawling.

For collectors who want traditional Swiss complications without stepping into a more precious or formal price tier, these latest Master Collection models sharpen an already persuasive proposition.
