Jack Mason Canton Day-Date Adds Guilloché Style to the Daily Calendar Watch

Jack Mason has given its Canton line a more dressed-up calendar complication without losing the everyday practicality that made the model approachable in the first place.

The new Canton Day-Date brings a full day aperture to the top of the dial, a date at 6 o’clock and a textured guilloché-style surface that gives the watch more character than a straightforward daily steel bracelet piece.

It’s also positioned at a price that puts it within reach of buyers who like the idea of a classic day-date layout but don’t want to step into heavyweight luxury territory.

The most obvious update is the day display, which now sits in a wide arc between 11 and 1 o’clock with each weekday written out in full.

That arched day window inevitably calls to mind the Rolex Day-Date, but Jack Mason’s execution avoids becoming a straight imitation.

The date is positioned at 6 o’clock, with its magnification lens placed beneath the sapphire crystal rather than above it, giving the dial a cleaner and less expected balance.

It’s a small layout decision, but it matters on a watch that’s working within one of the most recognisable calendar formats in modern watchmaking.

Guilloché texture in Slate, Lagoon and Chocolate

The Canton Day-Date’s strongest visual argument is its dial.

Rather than using a simple brushed or sunray finish, Jack Mason has gone with a milled guilloché pattern that creates a geometric, cross-spiral texture across the surface.

Traditional guilloché is associated with hand-operated rose engines, though contemporary watchmaking often uses precision machining to achieve similar visual depth at a more attainable price.

Here, that approach suits the watch neatly, adding refinement without pretending to be something far more precious.

There are three dial colours at launch.

Slate is a cool grey-blue, Lagoon moves into brighter teal-blue territory, and Chocolate brings a warmer brown tone with gold-coloured hands and hour markers.

The Chocolate version is the most openly dressy of the trio, while Slate and Lagoon feel better suited to the watch’s broader everyday brief.

Steel case, bracelet and a useful 150 metres of water resistance

The case measures 41mm across and 12mm thick, which puts it firmly in modern daily-wear territory.

It’s made from stainless steel, with a smooth bezel, brushed lugs and a three-link steel bracelet.

A micro-adjustment clasp adds a practical touch, especially for a watch intended to handle long days rather than sit in a box between occasions.

Water resistance is rated to 150 metres, and the watch also uses a screw-down crown.

That combination gives the Canton Day-Date more real-world resilience than its dressier dial might first suggest.

A Sellita movement with a Texan signature

Inside is the Sellita SW240-1 in top grade, an automatic calibre with day and date functionality, a 4 Hz beat rate and a 40-hour power reserve.

Jack Mason regulates the movement in the United States to an accuracy of plus or minus 5 seconds per day.

The movement is visible through the exhibition caseback, where the brand adds a custom gold-coloured rotor.

Its curved form is inspired by longhorn cattle horns, a subtle nod to Jack Mason’s Texan identity without dragging the watch into novelty territory.

Finishing includes perlage, blued screws and brushing, which gives the caseback enough detail to justify being on show.
