IWC, MoonSwatch, TAG Heuer and Seiko Led a Packed Watch Week

The watch calendar has a habit of clustering its most interesting launches, and the past few days brought an unusually varied mix.

IWC leaned into high-watchmaking utility with a Mercedes-Benz anniversary Big Pilot, Swatch turned a total solar eclipse into a one-day MoonSwatch moment, TAG Heuer marked Zandvoort in orange, and Seiko added fresh craft-led Presage pieces with enamel, urushi and bonsai connections.

IWC gives the Big Pilot a Mercedes-Benz anniversary complication

IWC’s Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar ProSet 140 Years Mercedes-Benz is the most mechanically ambitious launch of the group.

Limited to 140 pieces, the watch pairs a 42mm stainless steel case with IWC’s patented Perpetual Calendar ProSet system, a gear-driven mechanism that allows the calendar indications to be adjusted forward or backward through a single crown position.

That matters because perpetual calendars are often beautiful but fussy, especially when they’ve been left unworn for a stretch.

Here, the appeal is less about novelty for its own sake and more about making a serious complication easier to live with.

The Mercedes-Benz treatment is restrained rather than theatrical.

The black dial uses solid gold appliqués, gold-plated hands and a white minute track, while the sapphire caseback carries the combined star-and-laurel emblem.

Inside is IWC’s automatic calibre 82665 with Pellaton winding, a nickel-phosphorus escapement, silicon hairspring, 60 hours of power reserve and the ProSet perpetual calendar mechanism.

At CHF 36,000 including VAT, it sits squarely in collector territory, but the 140-piece production run and anniversary context give it a clear reason to exist.

A total solar eclipse became a one-day MoonSwatch moment

Swatch’s latest OMEGA × Swatch release took a very different route, tying the Mission to the Sun Solar Eclipse edition to the total solar eclipse visible from Spain on 12 August 2026.

The watch keeps the yellow Bioceramic case and familiar layout of the Mission to the Sun, with white subdials, orange hands and a white tachymeter bezel.

The key changes are small but thematically sharp.

A black Bioceramic chronograph pusher appears at two o’clock, while the battery cover carries a new moon motif, a nod to the lunar phase during a total solar eclipse.

The watch was sold exclusively in Spain on 12 August 2026 through the Spanish Swatch website, selected stores in Bilbao, Ibiza and Valencia, and Swatch’s Rolling Planet activation in León.

Priced at EUR 280, it shows how the MoonSwatch line can still generate urgency when the idea is specific and the window is tight.

TAG Heuer sends off Zandvoort in Oranje

TAG Heuer’s Formula 1 Solargraph Zandvoort limited editions are built around the final Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort, and the brand didn’t shy away from national colour.

Both watches use a 38mm sandblasted stainless steel case, an orange bidirectional TH-Polylight bezel and a grey opaline dial with an orange-and-red seconds flange.

Red lacquered hands and indexes filled with Super-LumiNova keep the watch firmly in the Formula 1 design language rather than turning it into a souvenir piece.

The movement is TAG Heuer’s TH50-00 Solargraph, a solar-powered quartz calibre with up to 10 months of autonomy when fully charged and a service life of up to 15 years.

The reference WBY111H.FT8128 comes on a perforated orange rubber strap and is limited to 1,500 pieces.

The WBY111L.BA0042 moves to a sandblasted three-row steel bracelet, is limited to 1,000 pieces and is sold exclusively online.

Pricing is CHF 2,000 on rubber and CHF 2,100 on steel, a small spread that makes the choice more about character than cost.

Seiko brings Laurel heritage, enamel and urushi into Presage

Seiko’s Presage Classic Series additions sit in a quieter lane, but they may be the most charming releases here for traditional dial enthusiasts.

The Presage Classic Series “Craftsmanship” Enamel Dial HCC005J1 takes inspiration from the 1913 Laurel, Seiko’s first wristwatch.

It uses a white enamel dial with Laurel-derived Arabic numerals, blue hands and a red numeral at 12 o’clock, all details that give the watch a direct historical thread without making it feel like a museum object.

The HCC006J1 keeps the same general typography and recessed 24-hour display, but shifts the mood with a deep black urushi lacquer dial, gold-coloured numerals and hands, and a gold-coloured stainless steel case.

Both measure 39.6mm across, use dual-curved sapphire crystals and are powered by Seiko’s automatic calibre 6R5H with approximately 72 hours of power reserve.

A third Presage release extends the craft narrative through a collaboration with Tradman’s Bonsai, a Japanese collective founded in 2015 to connect artisanal bonsai with contemporary culture and design.

The HCC009J1 is powered by the calibre 6R51, a time-only automatic movement with stop-seconds and 72 hours of power reserve.

Taken together, the week showed the breadth of today’s watch market in miniature, from a genuinely practical perpetual calendar to event-driven pop horology, motorsport colour and Japanese dial craft.

Not every release is aimed at the same collector, which is exactly what made this batch worth watching.
