Grand Seiko, TAG Heuer and MING Bring Texture Into Focus

The latest run of watch launches is unusually strong on texture.

Grand Seiko looks to dawn-lit cloud cover, TAG Heuer returns to Japanese motorsport, and MING puts Kuala Lumpur craft directly on the dial.

Bell & Ross and Louis Moinet round out the mix with a softened GMT and a gem-set chronograph that refuses to hide its mechanics.

Grand Seiko and TAG Heuer sharpen two familiar forms

Grand Seiko’s SBGA525 “Sea of Clouds in Gold” is the most geographically specific release in the group, created exclusively for the Grand Seiko Salon at Watches of Switzerland Jewel Changi Airport.

The watch uses the bezel-free 62GS-inspired case profile in titanium, measuring 40mm across and 12.8mm thick.

Its dial carries a fine cloud-like texture intended to evoke morning light breaking across a bank of clouds, with tempered blue accents adding a cooler counterpoint to the gold-toned surface.

Inside is Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive caliber 9R65, the familiar automatic movement with a gliding seconds hand, date, power reserve display and 72 hours of running time.

With production capped at 30 pieces and a price of SGD 9,800, this is a boutique-level regional edition aimed squarely at collectors who follow Grand Seiko’s more poetic dial work.

TAG Heuer’s Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa takes a very different route, but it also depends on small visual decisions rather than excess decoration.

The 39mm Carrera Glassbox case returns as the platform, now developed with Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department for a second collaborative edition.

The dial draws from the vintage Heuer Roadmaster dashboard stopwatch and the graphic language of Japanese motorsport, pairing a Clous de Paris surface with black markings and deliberate hits of Team Ikuzawa red.

TAG Heuer has removed the running seconds subdial, leaving a cleaner bicompax arrangement and room for the Team Ikuzawa signature above the date at six o’clock.

The automatic manufacture caliber TH20-10 is visible through the sapphire caseback and offers 80 hours of power reserve.

Limited to 150 pieces at USD 8,850, the watch comes on a seven-row steel bracelet with two additional racing-themed straps and a toolbox-style presentation case.

Bell & Ross softens the GMT while Louis Moinet turns up the theatre

The Bell & Ross BR-05 GMT Green Steel keeps the brand’s integrated urban sports watch architecture, but gives it a gentler character through a sage green dial.

The sunray-brushed dial is finished with green varnish and clear glossy varnish, creating shifting silver-toned reflections as the light moves across the surface.

Its independently adjustable arrow-shaped GMT hand tracks a second time zone against a green and silver-gray 24-hour flange, while the date window keeps the watch practical for travel.

The stainless steel case measures 41mm wide and 11mm thick, with satin and polished finishing and 100 meters of water resistance.

Power comes from the automatic BR-CAL.325-1 movement, which delivers a 54-hour power reserve.

Pricing is set at EUR 5,300 on the green rubber strap and EUR 5,800 on the steel bracelet.

Louis Moinet’s Memoris Diamonds sits at the opposite end of the spectrum, placing a dial-side monopusher chronograph inside a gem-set 46mm case.

The watch is offered in separate 12-piece editions in 18ct red gold and grade 5 titanium, both with 60 VVS-quality diamonds around the stepped bezel for a total of 0.90 carats.

Twelve blue sapphires sit against the white lacquered dial, while the blue theme continues through the flange, movement mainplate, chronograph bridge screws and alligator strap.

The automatic caliber LM79 contains 311 components and delivers 48 hours of power reserve.

It’s not a restrained watch, but that’s largely the point, since the Memoris concept has always treated the chronograph mechanism as the visual centre of the piece.

MING brings Kuala Lumpur craft to the dial

The MING 37.06 Royal Selangor is the quietest watch here in terms of case language, yet it may be the most interesting from a craft and production perspective.

Its hammered pewter dial is produced by Royal Selangor in Kuala Lumpur, giving each surface an irregular texture rather than the controlled repetition of a stamped pattern.

The dial sits inside a 38mm grade 2 titanium case measuring 11.05mm thick, with a weight of 35.9 grams without the strap.

MING’s signature indices are engraved beneath the front sapphire crystal and filled with Super-LumiNova X1, preserving the brand’s floating, architectural visual style.

The movement is the Swiss-made Sellita MING SW300.M1 automatic, offering 50 hours of autonomy.

All 88 watches will be assembled in Kuala Lumpur, making this the first MING production run to undergo final assembly in the brand’s home city.

The watch is presented in a matching hammered pewter box and will be available through Royal Selangor boutiques.
