Glashütte Original is returning to porcelain with a new Senator Meissen edition devoted to cherry blossom, bringing together two of Saxony’s best-known craft traditions.
The watch follows earlier porcelain-dial pieces from the brand’s Meissen collaboration, but this one has a softer seasonal character, with hand-painted petals set against a bright white dial.
It’s a dress watch first, yet the real point of interest is how much space it gives to traditional decorative work.

At a glance
- Glashütte Original has introduced the Senator Meissen Cherry Blossom with a hand-painted Meissen porcelain dial.
- The 40mm red-gold watch uses the automatic Calibre 36-16 with a 100-hour power reserve and traditional Saxon finishing.
- Availability is planned from October 2026, with pricing still to be confirmed and expected around EUR 30,000.
A Saxon collaboration with a seasonal Japanese cue
The Senator Meissen Cherry Blossom brings Glashütte Original’s watchmaking together with Meissen’s porcelain expertise, giving the dial the role usually held by guilloché, enamel or precious stone setting.
The motif draws on the flowering of winter cherry trees, including varieties such as Jugatsu-zakura, which can bloom as early as October.
That timing gives the watch an unusual seasonal tension, since cherry blossom is often associated with spring while this interpretation nods to a tree that can flower as the year turns colder.

The result is restrained rather than ornate, with white and pink blossoms sitting on white porcelain and warmed by the tones of the red-gold case.
Porcelain dial work takes centre stage
The case is the same 40mm red-gold format used for the recent Senator Meissen editions, measuring 10.2mm thick with a 47.09mm lug-to-lug span.
Those proportions keep it in dress-watch territory without making it feel overly delicate or old-fashioned.

Most of the case is polished, and its simplicity is deliberate, because this is a watch that asks the eye to stay on the dial.
Meissen artisans hand-paint the porcelain dial in several layers of colour, with each layer fired separately to achieve the finished effect.
There are no hour markers, which leaves the composition almost entirely open apart from the solid-gold 5N hour and minute hands.

A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides protects the dial, while a sapphire caseback gives a view of the movement.
The 100-hour calibre behind the artwork
Inside is Glashütte Original’s manufacture Calibre 36-16, an automatic movement derived from the 36-01 platform.
It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 100-hour power reserve, making it notably practical for a watch with such a decorative dial.

The silicon balance spring adds resistance to magnetic fields and temperature variation, while the stop-seconds function helps with precise setting.
The finishing stays close to the Saxon playbook, with a three-quarter plate decorated with Glashütte ribbing, a hand-engraved balance cock and a skeletonised rotor carrying the double-G logo and solid-gold oscillating weight.
The watch is paired with a dark blue Louisiana alligator leather strap and a red-gold pin buckle, a choice that frames the dial without competing with it.

The Senator Meissen Cherry Blossom is likely to appeal to collectors who value handcraft as much as mechanical pedigree, especially those drawn to quiet métiers d’art watches rather than overt complication.
It’s a measured expression of both manufactures, letting porcelain painting, Saxon movement architecture and a clean dress-watch case carry the story without excess.
