Glashütte Original’s latest Senator Aventurine watches look back to two design movements that helped define the early modern age, then translate them through colour, glass and Saxon watchmaking.
The Senator Aventurine Art Nouveau Green comes in red gold with a deep green dial, while the Senator Aventurine Art Déco Blue uses platinum and an icy blue dial.
Both sit in balanced 40 mm cases and use the brand’s automatic in-house Calibre 36-16, giving the pair a familiar mechanical foundation beneath two very different moods.

Two artistic eras in precious metal
The pairing is built around a clear contrast.
Art Nouveau, which flourished from 1890 to 1910, drew on nature, organic lines and flowing forms as a counterpoint to the pace of industrialisation.
Glashütte Original reflects that reference through a green dial set inside a warm red gold case.

Art Deco, associated with the 1920s and 1930s, leaned into symmetry, geometry and the momentum of a faster modern world.
Here, that idea is expressed through platinum and a cool blue dial, giving the watch a sharper, more architectural character.
The historical connection is not just decorative.

The shift from pocket watches to wristwatches was taking shape in Glashütte during this broader period of artistic and technological change, making the Senator Aventurine pair a neat bridge between design history and watchmaking history.
Aventurine glass gives each dial its own surface
The dials are made from aventurine glass, a material linked to 17th-century Murano in Venice.
Its distinctive sparkle comes from metallic particles formed when metal oxides are added to molten glass.

The name is derived from the Italian a ventura, meaning by chance, a fitting description for a material where the distribution of inclusions varies from dial to dial.
That randomness means no two examples should appear exactly alike.
Glashütte Original adds a black lacquer coating to the reverse of each thin disc, increasing the visual depth behind the shimmering surface.

It’s a dial treatment that suits the Senator case well, because the watch doesn’t need excess ornament to make the material work.
Calibre 36-16 and Saxon finishing
Inside both watches is the automatic Calibre 36-16, an in-house movement operating at 4 Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour.
It offers a 100-hour power reserve from a single mainspring barrel and incorporates an anti-magnetic silicon balance spring.

As part of Glashütte Original’s Atelier commissions, each watch is assembled in its entirety by a single master watchmaker.
The movement is visible through the sapphire crystal case back, where the traditional Saxon details do much of the quiet work.
Those include Glashütte stripe decoration on the three-quarter plate, a hand-engraved balance cock, sunburst finishing on the winding wheels and a skeletonised rotor carrying the brand’s double-G logo with a 21-carat gold oscillating weight.
