E.C. Andersson has been building a recognisable design language without letting every watch feel like a variation of the same idea.
The new Cpt takes that approach in a quieter direction, trading the sharper character of pieces like the Mytilus Bare Metal and Timepod for a compact, round case that reads more elegant than expected.
It’s billed by the brand as an unexpected tool watch, but its appeal sits in the space between a maritime daily wearer and a dress-leaning automatic.

At a glance
- E.C. Andersson has introduced the Cpt, a compact automatic watch with a nautical tool-watch brief.
- The watch combines a 35mm case, textured dial, box sapphire crystal, 100 metres of water resistance and a screw-down crown.
- Priced at £755, the first run is limited to 45 pieces per dial colour, with the brand saying the model will return.
A compact case with proper water resistance
The Cpt returns to a traditional round case, and the proportions are notably restrained.
The bezel measures 35.6mm, while the case itself is listed at 35mm, with a 43mm lug-to-lug and a 10.4mm total thickness including the box sapphire crystal.
Exclude the crystal and the case height drops to 8.5mm, which helps explain why the watch presents as slim rather than overtly rugged.

E.C. Andersson hasn’t treated elegance as an excuse to soften the practical side.
The Cpt carries 100 metres of water resistance, a triple-sealed screw-down crown and anti-reflective coating on the box sapphire crystal.
The case flanks alternate between polished and brushed finishing, giving the small case more definition without making it feel busy.

The dial keeps the brand identity intact
The Cpt is offered with either a Bright Silver or Midnight Blue dial, both using a textured surface and raised polished markers filled with Super-LumiNova.
The faceted pencil-style hands are also polished and lumed, while the seconds hand is finished with a capped tip.
Instead of the sandwich dial construction used on the Mytilus Bare Metal, the Cpt builds visual depth upward through applied elements.

The familiar sweeping corner forms seen across the brand’s recent models are still present, giving the Cpt a clear family link despite the more classic case shape.
One practical detail matters here.
Although a 35mm case can often make a dial feel cramped, the Cpt’s slim bezel leaves a 30.3mm dial opening, so it should wear visually larger than the headline diameter suggests.
A regulated automatic inside
Inside the Cpt is an automatic calibre based on the Miyota 9039.
It includes stop seconds and offers a stated power reserve of more than 42 hours.
The movement base is sourced, but E.C. Andersson says regulation, testing and final assembly take place in house.
Each watch is regulated to within -1/+6 seconds per day under the brand’s own precision certification, which gives the Cpt a more considered technical position at its price.
Strap and everyday wear
The Cpt is delivered on a nylon strap with a deployant clasp and tucked end, keeping the fit visually tidy.
The 20mm lug width also makes strap changes straightforward, which suits the watch’s hybrid character.
On paper, this is less a pure diver and more a compact GADA watch for someone who wants water resistance, lume and a screw-down crown without the bulk or obvious sports-watch styling.

The Cpt works because it doesn’t try to look like a shrunken diver or a vintage pastiche.
It takes the useful parts of a sea-ready tool watch and folds them into a smaller, cleaner shape, which may make it one of E.C. Andersson’s most versatile releases yet.
