Czapek Brings a Blue Gibeon Meteorite Dial to the Antarctique

Integrated sports watches don’t need more noise. They need a reason to look twice.

The Czapek Antarctique Frozen Meteor gives the brand’s time-only steel platform a dial cut from Gibeon meteorite, treated with light blue lacquer for an icy metallic finish. It arrives in both 40.5mm and 38.5mm cases, keeping the focus on texture, proportion and the newly refined bracelet.

A colder take on the Antarctique dial

Since its 2020 debut, the Antarctique has become Czapek’s most recognisable modern watch, helped by a case shape that sits outside the usual integrated-bracelet template.

The time-only versions have also become the collection’s cleanest stage for dial work, from the stamped Passage de Drake pattern to stone, aventurine and mother-of-pearl executions.

Frozen Meteor continues that direction with a dial made by GT Cadrans from a sliver of Gibeon meteorite, the iron meteorite found in present-day Namibia and estimated to have arrived on Earth around 600 million years ago.

The surface is acid-washed and hand-polished to bring out the natural Widmanstätten pattern, then finished with light blue lacquer and polished again.

The result should be less uniform than a conventional blue dial, with the geometry of the meteorite giving each piece its own crystalline signature.

Czapek keeps the display simple, using applied indices, sword-shaped hands with luminescent inlays and a red-tipped central seconds hand.

Two steel cases and a more precise V2 bracelet

The Antarctique case remains familiar, with its flat brushed barrel profile, polished sloping bezel and guarded screw-down crown.

Both sizes are in stainless steel and measure 10.6mm thick, with the larger 40.5mm version spanning 44.5mm lug to lug and the 38.5mm model measuring 42.8mm lug to lug.

A box sapphire crystal sits over the dial, while the back uses sapphire as well, giving a view of the movement.

Water resistance is rated to 120 metres, which keeps the Antarctique firmly in everyday sports-watch territory rather than reducing it to a decorative dial experiment.

The more meaningful external update is the V2 integrated bracelet, produced with specialist partners STL Swiss and RD Manufacture.

It keeps the polished C-shaped central links and brushed outer surfaces, but tighter machining tolerances are intended to improve link consistency, edge definition and overall solidity on the wrist.

The clasp has also changed, replacing the earlier rotating locking mechanism with a push-button, tool-free quick-change system.

A rubber strap is included, which gives the watch a more casual second personality without asking the owner to choose between bracelet and strap at purchase.

The SXH5 calibre remains the mechanical anchor

Inside is Czapek’s in-house automatic calibre SXH5, the same movement family that helped define the Antarctique when the line launched.

The movement uses a platinum micro-rotor and seven openworked black bridges with sandblasted finishing, including a transversal bridge for the variable-inertia balance.

It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a 60-hour power reserve from a single barrel.

That balance of visual architecture and practical autonomy suits the Antarctique well, especially in a watch where the front is intentionally uncomplicated.

The launch also arrives as Czapek phases out two familiar Passage de Drake models, Black Ink and Ice White, in both 40.5mm and 38.5mm sizes.

The Antarctique Frozen Meteor is a strong fit for collectors who prefer the integrated-sports-watch format without wanting another plain blue dial.

It’s still recognisably Czapek, but the meteorite treatment gives the watch a colder, more elemental character that suits the collection’s name unusually well.
