Cyma’s Grand Maestro line is getting a more complicated member, and it leans into a theme that suits the dial architecture rather well.
The new Grand Maestro “The Chess” Moonphase combines an automatic chronograph with a triple calendar, 24-hour indication and moonphase, all arranged in a layered design with three dial colour options.
It’s a busier, more classical turn for a collection that already sits on the sportier side of Cyma’s modern catalogue.

At a glance
- Cyma has expanded the Grand Maestro collection with “The Chess” Moonphase, an automatic chronograph with calendar and lunar indications.
- The watch uses a 43.5mm 316L stainless steel case, three dial layouts and an ETA 7751 automatic movement.
- Standard models are priced at USD 4,515, with a 40-piece limited edition listed at USD 4,950.
A chess-inspired case with Grand Maestro proportions
The Grand Maestro “The Chess” Moonphase is housed in a 43.5mm stainless steel case measuring 14.55mm thick.
Cyma uses 316L stainless steel here, with a dual-layered curved bezel that the brand says is intended to evoke the sculptural form of a chess piece.
The case has rounded chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock, while the screw-down crown uses double sealing zones.

A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating sits over the dial, and the screw-in steel caseback includes a K1 glass window for viewing the movement.
Water resistance is rated to 100 metres, which gives the watch practical sports-watch footing despite the more decorative calendar display.
Three dial colours and a full calendar chronograph layout
Cyma offers the new model in champagne and black, midnight blue, and silver-white dial combinations.

Each dial has a sandblasted main surface, with three-dimensional hands and hour markers treated with Swiss Super-LumiNova.
The amount of information on display is considerable, but that’s part of the appeal of this kind of mechanical calendar chronograph.
At 12 o’clock, the 30-minute chronograph counter shares space with the day and month indications.

At 9 o’clock, the small seconds is paired with a 24-hour indication.
At 6 o’clock, the 12-hour chronograph counter is combined with the moonphase display.
A red-tipped hand tracks the date around the outer edge of the dial.

The ETA 7751 brings a familiar architecture
Inside the watch is the ETA 7751, an automatic movement based on the Valjoux 7750 platform and first introduced in the 1980s.
It’s a long-established calibre for this kind of watch, pairing chronograph functionality with day, date, month, 24-hour and moonphase indications.
The movement runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 48-hour power reserve.

Through the exhibition caseback, the calibre is visible with a Cyma-branded rotor and clean finishing.

The Grand Maestro “The Chess” Moonphase will make the most sense for collectors who enjoy traditional Swiss complications in a modern case size, especially those drawn to the visual density of a full calendar chronograph.
It’s not a minimalist watch, and it isn’t trying to be one; its character comes from putting a lot of mechanical theatre on the wrist without abandoning everyday steel-watch practicality.
