The partnership has always had unusual credibility because Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Chopard’s Co-President, is not merely an enthusiast from the sidelines.

He has competed in the 1,000-mile event every year since 1989, giving the collection a direct link to the noise, vibration and theatre of historic motorsport.

It’s a practical automatic sports watch with a cockpit-minded layout, a robust case and a dial that leans into the character of the road without becoming theatrical.

Lucent Steel and an asphalt-toned Grigio-Blu dial

The case is made from Chopard’s Lucent Steel, the proprietary alloy introduced in 2019 and now used across the Maison’s steel watchmaking.

Composed of 80 percent recycled material, the alloy is valued for its bright finish, hypoallergenic properties and improved scratch resistance.

At 43 mm in diameter and 11.43 mm thick, the watch has presence, though the sharply downward-tapering lugs help it sit more compactly than the number might suggest.

A screw-down crown, engraved with a classic steering wheel motif, is framed by crown guards that reinforce the watch’s functional character.

The Grigio-Blu dial is one of the release’s strongest elements.

Its grained surface is intended to evoke asphalt, while the grey-blue tone gives the watch a cooler and more contemporary feel than the usual black-and-red racing palette.

Large baton hands and applied hour markers are filled with black Super-LumiNova, with Arabic numerals at 6 and 12 o’clock adding structure without crowding the display.

At 9 o’clock, the power reserve indicator takes the form of a classic analogue fuel gauge, marked with E and F to show the state of the mainspring.

The date window at 3 o’clock includes the red Mille Miglia emblem and visually balances the gauge on the opposite side of the dial.

Inside is Chopard’s Calibre 01.08-C, a self-winding mechanical movement developed, engineered and assembled in-house.

It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, uses 40 jewels and delivers a 60-hour power reserve.

The movement is certified by the COSC, which gives the watch chronometer status rather than leaving the racing narrative to surface design alone.

A stop-seconds function allows precise time-setting, a small but useful feature for anyone who likes their watch synchronised cleanly.

The automatic calibre can be viewed through the exhibition caseback, while the watch remains water resistant to 100 metres.

Chopard completes the piece with a black technical textile strap lined with a rubber tyre-tread pattern and fitted with a Lucent Steel deployant buckle.
