Berneron’s Mirage has always been a watch for people who notice proportion before logos.
The new Mirage 38 Miroir pushes that idea further by turning the movement around and asking its bridges, plates and mechanics to do the work of a dial.
It’s a difficult trick to make legible, especially in a shaped case, but the result feels less like a technical display and more like a watch designed from the inside out.

A mirrored movement with built-in time cues
The Mirage 38 Miroir uses a new Calibre 283, conceived as a mirror-image evolution of Berneron’s earlier Mirage movement.
Its architecture brings the mechanics to the dial side, exposing the barrel bridge, train bridge, balance and fourth wheel while keeping the display to hours and minutes.
Inverted movements often struggle because they can look like a calibre with hands dropped on top.
Here, the movement geometry helps carry the reading of time.
The sector guilloché on the barrel bridge and the separate train bridge create visual markers from 11 to 6, while stepped areas in the mainplate pick up the remaining hours.
Screws at either end of the balance bridge serve as discreet indications for 7 and 10.
The exposed fourth wheel also functions as a running seconds indication, adding a small mechanical pulse without crowding the display.
The Mirage case still follows Fibonacci logic
The case remains 38mm by 34mm and just 7mm thick, preserving the low, asymmetrical profile that defines the Mirage family.
Its shape is derived from Fibonacci proportions, with spirals and circles informing both the outline of the case and the placement of key movement elements.
That mathematical underpinning matters because the watch never feels randomly distorted.
Its off-centre softness has a deliberate rhythm, and the slimness helps the unusual form settle naturally on the wrist.
The Mirage also keeps its inverted hand stack, with the hour hand sitting above the minute hand rather than beneath it.
That arrangement allows the crystal to slope down sooner toward the bezel, helping reduce total thickness without forcing the movement to become less ambitious.
Gold construction taken unusually far
Berneron offers the Mirage 38 Miroir in 18k yellow gold or 18k white gold.
The use of precious metal extends well beyond the case, with gold used for the hands, baseplate, bridges and spring bars.
The Calibre 283 measures 30mm by 28mm and is 2.83mm thick, with a 72-hour power reserve and a 3 Hz balance.
The titanium balance is free-sprung with turnable weights, while the movement’s finishing mixes frosted yellow gold, engraved white gold and a steel balance bridge with circular graining.
The white gold bridges feature sharp internal angles and CNC-engraved guilloché that reads almost like radial Geneva striping.
The barrel ratchet wheel carries a pinecone motif, a subtle continuation of the Fibonacci theme.
A full gold bracelet built for an asymmetrical case
The Mirage 38 Miroir can be ordered on grained calf leather or on a full 18k gold bracelet.
The bracelet is one of the more significant additions here, because matching a slim, asymmetrical case with a metal bracelet is rarely straightforward.
Berneron uses a seven-link construction with shaped end links that meet a step in the caseback rather than leaving a visible gap.
The alternating satin and polished finishing gives the bracelet depth, and each bracelet requires 150 hours of finishing.
It weighs close to 125 grams, so the feel should be more substantial than the watch’s thin profile might suggest.
The clasp uses an open-ended construction with three tool-free adjustment positions.
It isn’t intended as an on-the-fly adjustment system, since that would add thickness, but it keeps the clasp slim and consistent with the rest of the watch.
The bracelet can also be retrofitted to existing Mirage 38 models in Prussian Blue and Sienna, while a bracelet for the 34mm Mirage is planned for early 2028.

The Mirage 38 Miroir is not a louder version of Berneron’s idea, but a more revealing one.
