The Baltic x SpaceOne Seconde Majeure is a new collaborative mechanical watch that packages a jumping-hour display, an oversized running seconds indication and a compact 904L steel case at a price usually reserved for far simpler watches.
It is not trying to imitate a traditional dress watch, nor does it lean on retro cues alone. The appeal is in how calmly it presents an unusual display that could easily have become fussy.
A 38.5mm 904L case with the crown at noon
The case measures 38.5mm across and 12.3mm thick, dimensions that are notably restrained for a watch with a modular complication.
Its 904L stainless steel construction gives it a slightly more premium footing than the usual entry-level case material, while the shape remains clean and wearable.
The crown is the detail that changes the character of the watch. Instead of sitting at 3 o’clock, it is tucked into a notch at 12 o’clock, creating a symmetrical silhouette and keeping the profile visually tidy.
Broad brushed lug surfaces, polished chamfers and a rounded polished bezel give the case enough definition without pulling attention away from the dial.
The caseback is kept simple with engraving and individual numbering over a vertically brushed surface, while water resistance is rated to 50 meters.
German silver gives the dial its warmth
The dial is made from a single piece of German silver, a choice that gives the watch a warmer and more tactile personality than a standard painted dial.
At 12 o’clock, the jumping hour appears through a black-framed aperture, using a printed sapphire disc for a crisp digital-style display.
The larger lower display handles the minutes through another printed sapphire disc, with the current reading oriented at 6 o’clock and framing that makes the scale easy to read at a glance.
The running seconds display is deliberately more theatrical. A raised radial-brushed seconds ring carries a blued needle hand with a circular counterweight, making the only conventional hand on the dial the most animated element.
Two dial finishes are offered. The brushed version uses linear finishing around the outer dial, while the Charbonné option introduces a hand-applied cloudy texture that takes three hours to complete in Baltic’s atelier.
A jumping-hour module built for simplicity
Inside the Seconde Majeure is a Soprod P024 automatic movement fitted with a jumping-hour module designed in-house.
The module uses only three main components, comprising a central control wheel, a 12-toothed star wheel and a jumper spring.
That pragmatic approach matters. It keeps the mechanism relatively straightforward, which should help with long-term servicing and ownership compared with more elaborate exotic complications.
The movement runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 42-hour power reserve, which is adequate rather than exceptional.
Pre-order window and pricing
The Baltic x SpaceOne Seconde Majeure is delivered on a camel Alcantara strap by Delugs, chosen to complement the champagne warmth of the dial while adding a contemporary texture.
It will be sold exclusively through Baltic’s online store during a short pre-order window running from May 12 to May 17, 2026.
Production will be tied to orders placed during that period, with deliveries scheduled for November 2026 and no further sales planned afterward.
Pricing starts at €2,500 and rises to €3,500 depending on the selected dial finish.
For collectors who want mechanical theatre without the size, price or servicing anxiety that often comes with it, the Seconde Majeure looks like one of the more thoughtful complicated independents of the year.
