Audemars Piguet Brings Full Bleu Nuit Ceramic to the Royal Oak Flying Tourbillon

Audemars Piguet has given the Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon one of its most coherent ceramic treatments to date.

The new reference 26730CD.OO.1225CD.01 takes the familiar 41mm flying tourbillon format and dresses the entire external architecture in “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” ceramic, a deep blue shade tied closely to the earliest Royal Oak dials.

It’s a technical watch, but the first impression is visual restraint rather than complication theatre.

“Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” is not just another dark blue in Audemars Piguet’s palette.

The colour traces back to the first Royal Oak Jumbo dials, where dial maker Stern Frères achieved the tone by adding black pigment No. 50 to the protective lacquer.

AP introduced the shade as a ceramic colour in 2025, applying it to selected Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore models.

Here, the idea feels more complete because the ceramic is used for the case, bezel, crown and integrated bracelet.

The result is a monochrome Royal Oak that still has depth, helped by the way the blue changes across brushed flats, polished bevels and the patterned dial.

Ceramic finishing without losing the Royal Oak edges

The watch keeps the established proportions of this selfwinding flying tourbillon, with a 41mm case and a thickness of 10.6mm.

Those dimensions matter because ceramic can easily make a watch feel visually dense, yet the Royal Oak’s faceted architecture gives the material enough sharpness and light play.

Audemars Piguet has preserved the collection’s alternating satin-brushed and polished finishing, executed by hand across the ceramic exterior.

That’s especially important on the bracelet, where the Royal Oak’s identity depends on crisp transitions between links rather than simple gloss.

The front is protected by a glareproof sapphire crystal, while the sapphire caseback sits within a titanium frame.

The bracelet closes with a titanium AP folding clasp, a practical detail that also keeps the wearing hardware consistent with the caseback construction.

A quiet dial built around the flying tourbillon

The dial continues the same colour story with a “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” Grande Tapisserie pattern.

White gold applied hour markers and Royal Oak hands add contrast, both treated with luminescent material for low-light legibility.

At 6 o’clock, the flying tourbillon is presented in a rhodium-toned execution and appears to sit beneath the dial without an upper bridge crossing the aperture.

The display is deliberately spare, limited to hours, minutes and the tourbillon.

That restraint suits the watch because it allows the ceramic case and the exposed regulating organ to share the attention without overcrowding the dial.

The calibre 2950 inside

The Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50 Ceramic is powered by Audemars Piguet’s in-house calibre 2950.

The automatic movement was first introduced in the Code 11.59 collection before being used within the Royal Oak family.

It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a 65-hour power reserve.

Through the sapphire caseback, the movement shows traditional high-end finishing including Côtes de Genève, circular graining and polished bevels.

A rhodium-toned 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight completes the view from the back.

This is a Royal Oak for collectors who already understand the shape and are more interested in how far AP can push material, colour and finishing within that familiar frame.

The flying tourbillon gives it mechanical stature, but the appeal is really in the way “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” turns a historic dial colour into a full ceramic object.
