The Watch Angels x Alpina Startimer Pilot IFR Chronograph is a rare pilot’s watch with a function that goes beyond aviation styling, because it mechanically calculates holding pattern entries for instrument flight rules operations.
A Startimer Built Around a Real Flight Procedure
Alpina brings the aviation history and the Startimer platform, while Watch Angels contributes the engineering concept that turns the case into a working IFR calculator rather than a decorative bezel exercise.
The Holding Pattern System Lives in the Case
The key mechanism is an habillage complication housed in the 44.5 mm stainless steel case, pairing a push-release black matte ceramic coupling bezel with a multi-level inner dial ring that resolves the correct entry type and heading information.

The pilot sets the inbound course with the bezel in its lower position, then sets the aircraft heading with the bezel in its upper position, after which two colour-coded apertures at 12 o’clock show the entry as orange for direct, red for teardrop, or blue for parallel.
A Cockpit-Readable Blue Dial
The sunray blue dial is organised for quick reading, with a silver outer ring, black minutes track, luminous applied Arabic numerals, luminous hands, a red-tipped seconds hand, a central UTC hand, a 15-minute counter at 12 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and a running indicator disc at 9 o’clock.
Column-Wheel Chronograph Hardware
Inside is the Sellita SW531b in its 15-minute counter configuration, a Swiss Made column-wheel chronograph movement running at 28,800 vibrations per hour with 25 jewels and a 62-hour power reserve.

The case measures 15.8 mm thick with 13.95 mm visible height, spans 51 mm lug to lug, is water-resistant to 100 metres, and uses a convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, while the case back is engraved with the three holding pattern entries.
Price, Straps and Limited Production
The Watch Angels x Alpina Startimer Pilot IFR Chronograph is limited to 300 pieces and opens for orders on 21 May 2026 through Watch Angels at CHF 4,295, including shipping, local VAT, and import duties.
Each watch is delivered with two quick-release leather pilot straps in light grey and camel brown, making this a particularly focused release for collectors who prefer mechanical watches with a job to do.
