Seiko is marking 145 years with a broad limited-edition collection that reaches across some of its most recognisable families.
The unifying idea is Edo purple, a shade tied to Tokyo’s cultural history and the Edo period, paired here with gold-coloured accents across six very different watches.
It’s a smart anniversary move because it doesn’t treat Seiko as one thing, instead showing the range of a brand that can move from mechanical field watches to GPS Solar technology and retro digital design without losing its identity.

Edo purple gives the collection its cultural thread

The shade connects the anniversary watches to the city where Seiko’s story began, while the gold-coloured accents give each model a warmer, more ceremonial feel without pushing them into full dress-watch territory.
The result is a collection that feels intentionally varied.
Rather than applying one case shape or one movement across the series, Seiko has used the colour theme as a link between watches with very different personalities.
Each case back carries a dedicated “LIMITED EDITION” engraving, which keeps the anniversary status visible without dominating the dial side.
Prospex anchors the release with Alpinist and Speedtimer models
The Prospex Alpinist HBC006 is the most historically grounded of the group, with cues drawn from the 1959 Laurel Alpinist.
Its 39.5 mm stainless steel case has a super-hard coating, a screw-down crown, a see-through screw case back and 20 bar water resistance, making it one of the more practical mechanical pieces in the anniversary set.
The purple dial uses wedge-shaped markers, Arabic numerals and gold-coloured details, while an inner rotating compass ring reinforces the Alpinist’s outdoor character.
Inside is Seiko’s automatic Calibre 6R55, which brings a useful 72-hour power reserve.
The Prospex Speedtimer HBJ005 moves the mood toward Seiko’s timing instruments of the 1960s and 1970s.
It uses the solar Calibre V192 for chronograph functions, a 24-hour display and a power-reserve indication, with purple detailing carried onto the dial and aluminium tachymeter bezel insert.
Astron, Presage, Seiko 5 Sports and Selection widen the anniversary story
The Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph HAB011 is the technical flagship of the six.
Its titanium case and integrated bracelet are treated with a super-hard coating, while ceramic bracelet links and a ceramic-and-titanium bezel give the watch a more architectural feel.
The vertically graded purple dial, patterned with horizontal lines, is intended to evoke dusk, and the GPS Solar Calibre 5X83 adds world time across 38 time zones, high-speed time-zone adjustment, automatic daylight-saving adjustment and a perpetual calendar running to 2100.
At the more formal end, the Presage Cocktail Time GMT HCB006 channels the “Edo Murasaki” cocktail created by Hisashi Kishi of Tokyo’s STAR BAR.
Its translucent, radially textured purple dial and independent gold-tone GMT hand make it the dressiest mechanical watch in the collection.
The Seiko 5 Sports SKX Series HDB003 gives the theme a familiar sports-watch shape, with a 42.5 mm stainless steel case, deep purple dial, Lumibrite and a transparent screw case back showing the automatic Calibre 4R36.
The surprise entry is the Seiko Selection HFL001, a digital quartz model that reinterprets the 1982 Rotocall with a black hard-coated stainless steel case and a rotary-switch control interface highlighted in Edo purple.
