Parmigiani Fleurier’s 30th anniversary watch is not a discreet commemorative dial or a simple numbered edition.
The Carillon Tourbillon is a five-piece Objet d’Art creation that ties the manufacture’s restoration roots to one of watchmaking’s most demanding forms of mechanical theatre, pairing a tourbillon with a carillon-style chiming mechanism.
It also feels unusually personal, because the watch speaks directly to the world Michel Parmigiani built around restoration, hand craft and historical interpretation.

A restoration story turned into a modern complication
Michel Parmigiani’s career began with restoration, long before his name appeared on the dial of a manufacture watch.
That background matters here, because the Carillon Tourbillon draws its intellectual thread from an early nineteenth-century Perrin Frères pocket watch restored by Parmigiani Fleurier’s ateliers in 2000.
The historic watch, part of the Sandoz Collection, contained a wandering hours quarter repeater and a tourbillon, giving Parmigiani Fleurier a rare encounter with chiming architecture from another age.
The new wristwatch doesn’t attempt to imitate that pocket watch literally.
Instead, it takes one of its most poetic traits, the serpentine gong, and reinterprets it as a defining visual and acoustic element.
Four serpentine gongs frame the dial, creating a watch face that looks calm at first glance but quietly announces the complexity underneath.
Morning Blue and a case with classical rhythm
The dial is made from white gold and finished by hand-hammering, then rendered in Parmigiani Fleurier’s Morning Blue, a tone used for the anniversary pieces.
Its restraint is important, because a watch with this much technical firepower could easily become visually heavy.
Instead, the front remains composed, with 18K gold rhodium-plated appliques for the hours, 18K hour and minute hands, and a discreet PF signature at 12 o’clock.
The hammers sit at 9 and 11 o’clock, giving the dial a sense of suspended motion before the striking mechanism is even activated.
The 41.6 mm case is made from 18K white gold and shaped with vertical gadroons inspired by classical columns, a detail linked to Michel Parmigiani’s long-standing interest in architectural proportion.
On the left side of the case, the slide activates the striking sequence and automatically recharges the striking mechanism once used.
The watch is paired with an Akoya Grey hand-stitched alligator strap and an 18K white gold pin buckle, keeping the overall palette cool, pale and tightly controlled.
Four gongs and the mechanics behind the sound
The Carillon Tourbillon’s striking system uses one low-pitched gong for the hours, one high-pitched gong for the minutes and two additional gongs for the quarters, each assigned its own note.
A regulating flywheel controls the cadence of the hammers, helping each strike arrive with clarity rather than haste.
Turn the watch over and the mechanical character changes completely.
The rear reveals the PF950 hand-wound calibre, a 456-component movement with a 60-second tourbillon and a power reserve indicator.
Two superimposed barrels divide the workload, with one serving the gear train and the other dedicated to the striking mechanism.
The movement finishing includes mezzo vibrato decoration, executed by hand and previously seen on the dial of the Armoriale Objet d’Art.
The Morning Blue colour returns on the power reserve display and is echoed by the blue sapphire set into the crown, giving the watch a deliberate chromatic link between dial, case and movement-side detail.
