Orient Star Gives the M34 F8 Date a Meteorite Dial for Its 75th Anniversary

Meteorite dials often live in a higher-priced corner of watchmaking, which makes Orient Star’s latest anniversary piece especially interesting.

The M34 F8 Date Meteorite takes the brand’s quietly capable sports watch formula and gives it a genuinely distinctive dial, without losing the mechanical seriousness that has become central to Orient Star’s appeal.

Created for the brand’s 75th anniversary, it’s also the first Orient Star watch to use meteorite as a dial material.

A meteorite dial joins the M34 universe

The M34 collection already has a celestial thread, drawing inspiration from the Perseid meteor shower, so the move to meteorite feels more considered than decorative.

The dial has a silvery-grey tone that keeps the natural Widmanstätten pattern clear, with a metallic surface that changes character as light moves across it.

Because the pattern is formed naturally, no two dials will be identical.

Orient Star applies a silver vapour-deposited anti-corrosion coating to help protect the meteorite and preserve its grey-silver appearance.

That practical treatment matters, because meteorite is beautiful but not a material that can simply be left untreated in a daily-wear watch.

Familiar layout, sharper presence

Rather than stripping the dial back completely, Orient Star keeps the M34 F8 Date’s established functional layout.

There are faceted applied markers and hands, a date window at 3 o’clock and the brand’s signature power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock.

That power reserve display could easily crowd a dial this expressive, but the contrast and arrangement keep the watch legible.

A dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides helps control glare, which is especially important with a metallic dial surface.

The stainless steel case measures 40mm wide, 12.9mm thick and 47.3mm lug to lug, placing it in a practical modern sports watch zone.

Brushed and polished finishing gives the case a crisp look, while the H-link steel bracelet and push-button trifold deployant clasp keep the design cohesive.

Water resistance is rated to 100 metres, so this remains a usable watch rather than an anniversary piece that feels too delicate for regular wear.

The F8N64 movement adds real depth

Inside is Orient Star’s in-house calibre F8N64, an automatic movement with hand-winding, hacking seconds and a power reserve of around 60 hours.

The movement uses a silicon escape wheel, a component Orient Star introduced into its watchmaking in 2021.

Here it isn’t visible from the dial side, unlike in the brand’s skeletonised M34 pieces, but it remains part of the watch’s technical identity.

The calibre runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and is rated to +15/-5 seconds per day.

Through the sapphire caseback, the movement can be viewed alongside anniversary engraving and the individual serial number.
