Ochs und Junior has a way of making complicated watchmaking look almost austere.
The Perpetual Calendar Holiday Edition 2026 continues that habit, taking Ludwig Oechslin’s radically reduced perpetual calendar and giving it a sharper seasonal finish through white gold accents on a dark anthracite dial.
It’s a watch for people who like their complications intellectually satisfying rather than visually busy.

At a glance

Ludwig Oechslin’s pared-back perpetual calendar
The technical story behind this watch goes back to Oechslin’s Perpetual Ludwig, developed for Ulysse Nardin in 1996.
Instead of relying on the usual arrangement of fragile levers and springs, his system uses rotating gears and needs only nine additional and three modified components.
That simplicity has a practical consequence.

The calendar can be adjusted forwards and backwards via the crown at any time of day, avoiding the danger zone that can damage many traditional perpetual calendars during their date-change cycle.
Ochs und Junior first brought Oechslin’s perpetual calendar into its own collection in 2016, matching the mechanism with the brand’s characteristically raw, graphic design language.
The Holiday Edition 2026 arrives as a final note in the brand’s 20th anniversary celebrations and follows earlier festive editions including the 2025 Day/Night and Settimana Christmas Edition 2024.

White gold against a brutalist anthracite dial
The dial is where the Holiday Edition makes its clearest departure from the standard industrial mood.
Its anthracite surface combines sandblasted and circular-grained finishes, then adds white gold to the hour and minute hands, 10-minute markers and the dots used for the calendar and indicators.
There are no conventional sub-dials, date windows or printed calendar scales.

Instead, the date is read through a spiral of 30 plus one cutout holes around the dial’s edge, with a single white gold dot moving behind them.
The month and leap year share a disc at the circular-grained centre of the dial.
That disc rotates clockwise over the course of a year, with the outermost hole indicating the current month by its position on the dial.

If that outermost cutout shows a white gold dot, the watch is displaying a leap year.
If it remains dark, it is not.
Two smaller circles complete the information architecture, with the power reserve at 12 o’clock and running seconds at 6 o’clock.

A further dot between 1 and 2 o’clock indicates when it is safe to adjust the date.
Titanium case, UN-118 calibre and ordering details
The watch is housed in Ochs und Junior’s signature 42mm titanium case with straight lugs and 100 metres of water resistance.
Inside is the Ulysse Nardin UN-118 automatic calibre, which provides a 60-hour power reserve.

Ochs und Junior pairs the watch with a black Ecopell calfskin strap, keeping the overall presentation in line with the brand’s functional, stripped-down aesthetic.
Pricing is CHF 15,000 excluding tax, or CHF 16,215 including Swiss VAT.
Orders can be placed online or by email until 6 January 2027.
Orders received with a 50 percent deposit by 15 November 2026 are scheduled for delivery before Christmas.

The Perpetual Calendar Holiday Edition 2026 is a very Ochs und Junior kind of celebration, restrained in decoration but rich in mechanical thought.
For collectors drawn to Oechslin’s problem-solving and to watches that reward learning rather than immediate legibility, it’s one of the more distinctive festive releases of the season.
