Mido’s Multifort TV Big Date has always been one of the brand’s more recognisable modern sports watches, thanks to its rounded rectangular case and prominent date window.
The latest version keeps that familiar shape but gives the watch a more serious technical brief, led by a COSC-certified Calibre 80 movement and a pair of newly textured dials.
It’s a measured upgrade rather than a reinvention, and that’s exactly the point.

At a glance
- Mido has introduced the Multifort TV Big Date Chronometer as the first COSC-certified model in the Multifort TV Big Date range.
- The watch adds a Calibre 80 COSC movement, 80-hour power reserve, Nivachron balance spring and updated movement decoration.
- Two dial versions are offered, blue and dark grey, priced at CHF 1,350 or EUR 1,550.
The TV case stays deliberately familiar
The stainless steel case carries over the Multifort TV Big Date’s established dimensions, measuring 40mm wide, 39.2mm long and 11.5mm thick, with a 46.85mm lug-to-lug.
Its appeal is still rooted in that TV-screen geometry, a shape that feels retro without leaning too heavily on nostalgia.
Satin-brushed surfaces and polished accents give the case the sport-watch contrast expected in this category, while the three-part construction keeps the design structured and crisp.

A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides sits over the dial, and the screw-down crown and screw-secured caseback support 100 metres of water resistance.
New checkerboard dials give the Big Date more depth
The most visible change is the dial, now offered in two versions with a rectangular checkerboard texture.
One model uses a sunray-brushed blue dial, while the other takes a darker monochromatic route in grey and black.

The pattern gives the dial a stronger play of light than the previous executions, which suits the watch’s flat, architectural case profile.
The Big Date remains at 12 o’clock, now framed with an applied surround that makes the complication feel more integrated.
Diamond-cut faceted hands and redesigned hour markers use Super-LumiNova, while the minutes and seconds scale is pushed to the stepped flange with double-digit numerals marking five-minute intervals.

The word “Chronometer” appears on the dial, a small but important signal that this is not just a cosmetic update.
A COSC-certified Calibre 80 inside
The technical upgrade is the Mido Calibre 80 COSC, an automatic movement from the Powermatic family, also known as the ETA C07.651 and derived from the ETA 2824 architecture.
It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and delivers an 80-hour power reserve, giving the watch the practical benefit of being able to sit off the wrist for a weekend and keep running.

The movement is fitted with a Nivachron balance spring, used here for resistance to magnetic fields, shocks and temperature variations.
Chronometer certification by COSC means the movement is guaranteed to run within -4 to +6 seconds per day.
Mido has also paid more attention to the visible finishing.

Through the sapphire caseback, the movement shows blued screws, Côtes de Genève decoration on the oscillating weight, the Mido logo and “Chronometer” marked on the rotor.
