Jacob & Co. has never been subtle about its automotive ambitions, and the Bugatti Tourbillon Sapphire Crystal pushes that instinct to its most transparent conclusion yet.
The watch takes the brand’s hypercar-inspired complication and places it inside a case made entirely from sapphire crystal, exposing the movement, automaton and architectural theatre from almost every angle.
It’s less a conventional car-themed watch than a mechanical miniature built to behave like part wristwatch, part engine display.

A sapphire case built like a showpiece
The defining change is the case, which is made from solid sapphire crystal for the first time in the Bugatti collection.
Measuring 55 x 44mm and 15mm high, the case turns a watch that was already highly exposed into something closer to a transparent mechanical chassis.
The caseback, caseband and upper bezel each begin as a separate block of sapphire, with each case requiring more than 800 hours of machining.
That figure matters because sapphire is punishing to shape at this scale.
With a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, it resists cutting but can fracture if handled too aggressively, leaving very little margin between precision and failure.
The result is not just visual drama, but a material statement that suits Jacob & Co.’s appetite for difficult objects.
The V16 automaton takes centre stage
Inside the case sits the signature Bugatti element, a miniature V16 engine block automaton carved from a single block of sapphire.
Sixteen cylinders are drilled into the transparent block, each fitted with a titanium piston driven by a single-axis crankshaft.
Press the pusher integrated into the crown and the pistons fire in sequence for a 20-second animation.
The hand-wound Caliber JCAM55 can deliver 20 full animation sequences from a single wind, alongside an 80-hour power reserve for timekeeping.
This is where the watch becomes unmistakably Jacob & Co., because the movement is engineered not only to measure time but to perform.
The sapphire case makes that performance unusually direct, removing much of the visual separation between the wearer and the mechanism.
Dashboard thinking, but taken literally
The dial layout borrows from the instrument-cluster logic of the Bugatti hypercar that informs the watch.
At left is a 30-second flying tourbillon with a sapphire upper bridge, chosen as a nod to the car’s 276mph top speed.
At right, a subdial displays both the movement power reserve and the automaton power reserve.
Hours and minutes are shown through retrograde displays at the centre, with each hand travelling through a 270-degree arc before snapping back to its starting point.
It’s an interpretive take on an RPM counter rather than a conventional dial arrangement, and that makes sense for a watch that treats automotive cues as mechanical architecture.
The crown combines metal and sapphire, with inner knurling for grip, while a flip-out bow integrated into the caseback is used for winding and time-setting.
Two colours and extreme scarcity
The first series consists of two unique pieces.
One is finished in Jacob & Co.’s signature green, while the other uses a baby blue tone described by Jacob Arabo as a personal favourite.
On both watches, the colour treatment extends across the subdials, PVD-finished exhaust manifolds and matching rubber strap.
The red Bugatti logo adds a small but unmistakable brand punctuation point on a watch otherwise dominated by transparency, motion and colour.
At USD 1,200,000, this is aimed at the narrow overlap between high-complication watch collectors, Bugatti clients and enthusiasts drawn to mechanical spectacle.

The Bugatti Tourbillon Sapphire Crystal is not trying to be discreet, versatile or classically balanced.
