IWC’s next Chinese New Year watch takes the Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 in a warmer direction.
For the 2027 Year of the Goat edition, the Schaffhausen brand moves away from the burgundy tones it has used on recent zodiac pieces and gives its motorsport-leaning chronograph a gold-coloured dial, gold details and a special rotor visible through the caseback.
The result is still recognisably a Performance Chronograph, but with a more ceremonial edge.

At a glance
- IWC has introduced a Year of the Goat edition of the Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 for Chinese New Year 2027.

Gold replaces the familiar burgundy
IWC has used burgundy dials on several recent Chinese New Year editions, including zodiac-themed Portugieser and Pilot’s Watch models.
The Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Year of the Goat changes the palette with a gold-coloured dial, a choice that gives the watch a brighter and more formal presence without removing it from the sports chronograph category.
The base architecture remains tied to the Performance Chronograph 41 introduced in 2023, with a fixed tachymeter bezel that gives the Pilot’s Watch design a more motorsport-oriented character.

Here, the black ceramic bezel and black sub-dials keep the watch grounded, while the gold-plated hands and golden bezel markings sharpen the contrast.
Gold also carries cultural meaning in this context, where it is associated with fortune, prosperity and prestige.
Goat symbolism on the back and dial
The strongest zodiac references are not on the front alone.

Through the sapphire caseback, the automatic movement is fitted with a gold-plated oscillating weight shaped with a depiction of three goats.
In Chinese culture, three goats are associated with bliss, giving the caseback motif a more specific meaning than a simple decorative emblem.
IWC has also added a small calendar detail at 3 o’clock.

On the eighth day of each month, the numeral eight in the day-date display is replaced by the Chinese character for goat.
The Year of the Goat begins on February 6, 2027.
A sport chronograph with a dressier tone
The gold dial changes the mood, but the watch stays close to the standard Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 in its technical execution.

The case is titanium and measures 41mm across and 14.8mm thick, with 100 metres of water resistance.
Inside is IWC’s calibre 69385, an automatic chronograph movement by ValFleurier with a column wheel, a 46-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
The dial keeps the Pilot’s Watch emphasis on legibility through applied Arabic numerals, while the three black registers help break up the gold-toned surface.

A black calfskin strap completes the watch, and IWC’s EasX-CHANGE system allows the strap to be changed without tools.

For collectors who follow IWC’s Chinese New Year editions, this is a notable shift in tone.
It keeps the Performance Chronograph’s technical, instrument-like character intact, but the gold dial and goat-specific details make it a more symbolic and visually distinctive entry in the series.
