Isotope’s Hydrium has always had a distinctive silhouette, but the new Grey Reef Shark gives it a colder, more architectural edge.
The 200-piece limited edition pares the watch back to a monochrome palette, adds a micro-blasted steel case, and introduces the first stainless steel bracelet made for the Hydrium line.
At a glance
- Isotope has introduced the Hydrium Grey Reef Shark, a 200-piece limited edition dive watch in a monochrome grey execution.
- The watch uses a 40mm micro-blasted 316L stainless steel case, a cold grey dial, 300m water resistance, and a Swiss Landeron 24 automatic movement.
- It is priced at £1,300 and comes with both the new Hydrium steel bracelet and a grey FKM rubber strap.
A colder Hydrium case with a stripped-back bezel
The Grey Reef Shark keeps the Hydrium’s compact 40mm case profile, but its micro-blasted 316L stainless steel finish gives the watch a noticeably tougher character.

Rather than leaning on polished contrast or decorative brushing, the matte surface makes the case feel more tool-like and industrial.
The unidirectional dive bezel follows the same restrained logic.
It is made from a single piece of metal, with five-minute intervals shown through embossed Arabic numerals and recessed dot markers.

That decision suits the watch well, because the Hydrium’s case shape already has enough personality without needing extra visual noise.
The shark reference is mood rather than motif
The Grey Reef Shark name doesn’t translate into a literal dial graphic, which is the right call for this watch.
Instead, the connection sits in the atmosphere of the piece, with a brooding greyscale palette that feels more like the movement of a predator through low light than a themed novelty.

The cold grey dial carries Isotope’s raised Lacrima motif at the centre, paired with a raised peripheral chapter ring for the hour and minute scales.
Isotope has also simplified the branding at 12 o’clock, using the name alone in white rather than the fuller logo treatment seen on some earlier Hydrium models.
Black hour, minute and seconds hands keep the dial within the same monochrome discipline.

With 300m of water resistance, the Grey Reef Shark remains a proper dive watch rather than a desk diver dressed for the part.
The Hydrium bracelet arrives at last
The most practical update may be the new stainless steel bracelet, which makes its debut on this limited edition.
It is a three-link design with quick-release spring bars, a diver’s clasp and micro-adjustment, finished with bead-blasting to match the case.

For existing Hydrium owners, the important detail is compatibility.
The bracelet fits every Hydrium made to date and is also being sold separately for £268.
The Grey Reef Shark itself ships with both the bracelet and a grey FKM rubber strap, giving buyers a more rugged rubber option alongside the fully integrated steel look.

Landeron automatic movement and limited production
Inside the watch is the Swiss Landeron calibre 24 automatic movement.
It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 40-hour power reserve, with hours, minutes and seconds displayed on the dial.
The movement is visible through the exhibition caseback, where brushing, Côtes de Genève and perlage finishing can be seen.
The caseback also carries the individual limited edition number, marking each watch within the 200-piece run.
