Hanhart Turns the Aquasphere Into a Firefighter’s Timing Tool

Hanhart’s latest limited edition moves the instrument-watch conversation away from the sea and into the heat of emergency response.

The Thermosphere Limited Edition takes the sturdy Aquasphere architecture and reshapes it around the timing needs of firefighters using breathing apparatus, with design input from the Baden-Württemberg State Firefighters Association.

It’s a niche idea, but a smart one for a brand with a long history of legible, task-driven watches.

A dive-watch case repurposed for the fireground

The Thermosphere keeps the Aquasphere’s 42mm stainless steel case, a practical starting point for a watch intended to be read quickly and handled with gloves.

At 12.95mm thick and 49mm lug-to-lug, it sits in the modern tool-watch zone without becoming oversized for everyday wear.

The case combines brushed and polished surfaces, while a screw-down fluted crown, crown guards, sapphire crystal and 300 metres of water resistance preserve the Aquasphere’s robust credentials.

A helium escape valve remains part of the construction, even if the Thermosphere’s visual language has clearly moved beyond traditional diving use.

The solid caseback carries the emblem of the Baden-Württemberg State Firefighters Association, giving the edition a more direct link to the organisation behind the collaboration.

The bezel is the watch’s most distinctive feature

Where a dive watch would normally use a familiar minute scale, the Thermosphere’s blue ceramic bezel insert carries luminous triangular symbols inspired by operational checkpoints during deployments with breathing apparatus.

The bezel is bidirectional on this model, allowing the wearer to align it with the minute hand at the start of an operation and track time against the air-management routine used in the field.

It’s a simple mechanical interface, which is exactly the point.

Firefighting is not the place for a decorative complication or a fussy display, and Hanhart has kept the idea direct enough to be understood at a glance.

Emergency-service colours without losing legibility

The dark blue dial is built around contrast, with large indices and bold skeletonised hands treated with Super-LumiNova.

Yellow, red and blue accents connect the watch to emergency-service visuals, while the number 112 appears beneath the dotted triangle at 12 o’clock as a nod to the European emergency number.

The Baden-Württemberg State Firefighters Association emblem sits above 6 o’clock, balancing the date aperture at 3 o’clock.

The result is busier than a standard Aquasphere, but the core hierarchy remains clear, with luminous markers and broad hands doing the heavy lifting.

Automatic movement and practical strap options

Inside, Hanhart uses either the Sellita SW200-1 or Soprod P024 automatic movement, depending on production availability.

Both calibres offer central hours, minutes, hacking seconds and a date display, with a 28,800vph frequency and approximately 38 hours of power reserve.

As with Hanhart’s broader production, the movements are individually regulated in Germany to the brand’s stated in-house tolerance of 0 to +8 seconds per day.

The standard blue elastic hook strap is a sensible match for the concept, as it allows quick adjustment and can be worn with protective clothing.

A stainless steel bracelet is also offered for buyers who want a more conventional daily-wear configuration.

Details & Specifications

The Thermosphere won’t be for every collector, and that specificity is part of its appeal.

It takes a familiar sports-watch platform and gives it a credible operational twist, resulting in a limited Hanhart that feels more like a working instrument than a themed colourway.
