Formex is leaning further into the cosmic character of its Essence Ceramica line with the new Dark Matter Redshift.
The watch keeps the black ceramic case and dark meteorite dial of the Dark Matter formula, then cuts through the monochrome with a bright red seconds hand, dial text and minute scale.
It’s a small colour shift with a clear idea behind it, taking its name from the astronomical redshift effect seen in light arriving from beyond the solar system.

At a glance
- Formex has introduced the Essence Ceramica Dark Matter Redshift, a black ceramic meteorite-dial watch with red accents.
- The 41mm watch uses a black gold galvanic-treated Muonionalusta meteorite dial and a COSC-certified Soprod Newton P092 movement.
- It’s priced at £3,550, with annual production limited to 100 pieces and deliveries expected to begin in November.
Black ceramic and a darkened meteorite dial
The Redshift is based on the Essence Ceramica, a 41mm watch measuring 11.2mm thick that Formex introduced in March 2025.
Its case is made from black ceramic, a material valued in watchmaking for its hardness, scratch resistance and lasting colour.
Ceramic is also demanding to produce at this level, with the high-temperature firing process carrying a meaningful risk of cases cracking or failing before completion.

The dial continues the dark technical mood, using meteorite from the Muonionalusta meteorite rather than a conventional stamped or textured surface.
Formex applies a black gold galvanic treatment measuring less than a micron thick, darkening the meteorite while preserving the natural Widmanstätten pattern.
That balance matters, because the geometric structure of meteorite is the whole point of using the material in the first place.

The redshift detail changes the mood
The earlier Essence Ceramica Dark Matter established the stealthier side of the concept, but the Redshift is more graphic and more immediate.
The red seconds hand, red inscriptions and red minute track on the flange sit sharply against the black ceramic case and dark meteorite dial.
The name refers to redshift, the phenomenon where light waves arriving from outside the solar system are shifted toward the red end of the spectrum, indicating that their points of origin are moving away from Earth.

It’s an apt reference for a watch already built around extraterrestrial material, and it gives the design a clearer narrative than a simple accent-colour update.
Chronometer movement and controlled annual production
Inside, the Essence Ceramica Dark Matter Redshift uses the Soprod Newton P092, a COSC-certified chronometer movement.
The movement is visible through the exhibition caseback and is fitted with a custom skeleton rotor.
Formex has finished it with a laser-textured grain and brushed edges, while the power reserve is rated at 44 hours.
The watch is not a limited edition, but Formex states that annual production is restricted to 100 pieces.
That production approach gives the model a degree of scarcity without assigning it a numbered limited-edition status.

For collectors drawn to meteorite dials but tired of the usual polished silver treatment, the Redshift offers a darker and more contemporary take.
It’s still recognisably an Essence Ceramica, but the red detailing gives this version the energy its name promises.
