Cyrus Brings Stone Dial Restraint to the Dominion Lapis Blue GMT

Cyrus is best known for watches that put the mechanics on display, but the Dominion Lapis Blue GMT takes a more composed route. Its natural stone dial hides the machinery up front, then lets the traveller’s complication and finishing do the talking from behind the scenes.

Limited to 28 pieces, this is still very much a Cyrus watch, just with a calmer face and a richer material story.

The Cyrus Dominion Lapis Blue GMT is a 42mm Grade 5 titanium travel watch with a twin-crown layout, 100 metres of water resistance and a black alligator leather strap.

Its most important shift is visual rather than mechanical, as Cyrus moves away from its familiar openworked dial language and gives the Dominion line a solid mineral dial for the first time.

A calmer face for a technical independent

Cyrus has built much of its identity around exposed architecture, layered displays and watches that make their mechanical thinking visible.

The Dominion Lapis Blue GMT feels more reserved, but not less technical.

By using a continuous slab of lapis lazuli, the watch replaces mechanical theatre with texture, depth and the natural scatter of golden pyrite inside the stone.

That decision gives every piece its own pattern, which matters in a 28-piece run where individuality is part of the appeal.

The titanium case keeps the Dominion character

The 42mm case is made from Grade 5 titanium, a fitting choice for a travel watch because it keeps weight down while offering good strength and corrosion resistance.

Cyrus finishes the case with polished and satin-brushed surfaces, a demanding combination on titanium and one that helps the watch avoid feeling too utilitarian.

The twin-crown format remains central to the brand’s identity, giving the watch a balanced look from the front.

The crown at 3 o’clock handles winding and time-setting, while the 9 o’clock crown integrates a pusher that advances local time in one-hour steps without disturbing home time.

Lapis lazuli changes the dial language

The dial is genuine lapis lazuli, a stone prized for its intense blue colour and natural pyrite inclusions.

Cyrus has adjusted the dial furniture to suit that surface, using openworked hour and minute hands with white Super-LumiNova and facetted rhodium-plated hour markers instead of the Arabic numerals seen on other Dominion GMT models.

The GMT and small seconds displays sit on the vertical axis, giving the dial a clean symmetry.

A small hand with a luminous triangular tip tracks the second time zone across a 24-hour arc, while the running seconds sit below in a matching display with matt white lacquer, rhodium-plated borders and blue Pantone 286C details.

The CYR708 movement is still the heart of the watch

Inside is the self-winding CYR708 calibre, developed by Jean-François Mojon and manufactured in-house in Le Locle.

It runs at 4 Hz, uses 278 components and stores 55 hours of power reserve.

Through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement shows a more contemporary take on haute horlogerie finishing, with NAC-treated bridges, curved sunray decoration and contrasting brushed and microbillé textures.

The blue openworked oscillating weight ties back to the dial details, while the engraved motto “The Conquest of Innovation” makes the brand’s intent fairly plain.

The Dominion Lapis Blue GMT should appeal to collectors who like Cyrus for its independent engineering but want something less overtly skeletal than the brand’s more extroverted pieces.

It’s still a serious mechanical travel watch, but this time the first impression comes from stone, colour and restraint.
