Chopard Brings the L.U.C Regulator Back in a Sharper White Gold Form

Chopard’s L.U.C collection has always been at its best when it balances technical seriousness with quiet restraint.

The new L.U.C 1963 Heritage Regulator fits that brief neatly, reviving one of the manufacture’s more distinctive displays in a smaller white gold case and with the kind of movement architecture that helped define Chopard’s modern high-watchmaking identity.

It’s not a watch designed to shout across a room, but it does reward a closer look.

Regulator watches take their cue from precision clocks once used in workshops and observatories, where separating minutes, hours and seconds made time reading more exacting.

Chopard first explored the format in wristwatch form in 2006, then returned to it in 2015 with a larger 43mm L.U.C Regulator.

This new edition is more compact and more wearable, measuring 40mm across and 10.3mm thick.

The case is made from 18k ethical white gold, with a satin-brushed caseband set against a polished bezel and caseback.

A discreet pusher on the left side of the case advances the GMT hand, keeping the traveller’s function practical without disturbing the overall symmetry.

A busy dial that stays controlled

The silver-toned dial carries a lot of information, but Chopard has arranged it with enough order to avoid the clutter that can affect regulator watches.

The central white gold hand tracks the minutes around the dial, while the hours sit in a sub-dial at 3 o’clock.

Small seconds appear at 6 o’clock, with the date window placed at the base of that counter.

At 9 o’clock, a 24-hour GMT display brings a second time zone into the layout, using contrasting textures to distinguish day and night.

The lower half has a sunray finish, while the upper half uses horizontal lines.

An arched power reserve indicator sits at noon, a useful reminder given the movement’s unusually long autonomy.

Blue transfers add contrast against the silver dial, while recessed sub-dials with raised central discs give the face more depth than its formal layout first suggests.

Nine days from a slim manual movement

The calibre inside is the L.U.C 98.02-L, an in-house manual-winding movement with Chopard’s Quattro system.

That means four barrels working together to deliver a power reserve of 216 hours, or nine days.

The figure is particularly notable because the movement itself is only 4.9mm thick.

It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and is built from 244 components with 39 jewels.

The movement carries COSC chronometer certification, and the watch also bears the Poinçon de Genève hallmark.

Finishing can be viewed through the sapphire caseback, which is exactly where a movement from the L.U.C line deserves to be seen.
