Charles Girardier Plénitude Signals a New Chapter for the Revived Genevan Name

Charles Girardier is the sort of name that rewards a little context.

Revived in recent years by collector Patrick Ulm, the maison has built its identity around a thoughtful reading of Genevan decorative watchmaking rather than a simple exercise in nostalgia.

The new Plénitude collection, unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2026, pushes that idea forward with two variants, the PL1 and PL2, and a broader move toward in-house-developed watchmaking.

Charles Girardier was born in Geneva in 1759, at a time when the city’s reputation for fine watchmaking was being shaped by a network of specialist artisans.

The Lunar Phase brings a different emotional register to the same collection, including a Blue Ocean version that leans into a more atmospheric reading of the complication.

Charles Girardier has already shown it can work with automata, enamel, tourbillon architecture and poetic display concepts.

The move to Buchs in the canton of Aargau is an important part of the Plénitude story.

It’s a notably Swiss arrangement, independent workshops pursuing their own ideas while remaining close enough to exchange specialist knowledge when the work demands it.

That matters because Plénitude is connected to the brand’s ambition to create a fully in-house-developed manufacture movement.
