Blancpain has used World Ocean Day to introduce a new Fifty Fathoms Tech, and the watch is very much aimed at divers who treat timing equipment as more than a styling cue.
The reference 5019A-12B30-94A carries forward the three-hour dive timing system first seen in the Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 2 Tech Gombessa, placing one of Blancpain’s most specific modern dive-watch ideas into a new professional model.
It’s large, technical and purpose-built, with a Grade 23 titanium case, a highly legible dial architecture and a €24,550 price tag.

A three-hour bezel for longer underwater work
The Fifty Fathoms has carried serious diving credibility since 1953, when it helped define the modern diver’s watch with features such as a secured rotating bezel for tracking elapsed time underwater.
For most diving watches, that timing language has remained tied to a 60-minute scale.
Blancpain’s three-hour system answers a different set of requirements, particularly for closed-circuit rebreather dives and other technical outings that can run well beyond a conventional one-hour bezel.
The concept was developed with explorer and underwater photographer Laurent Ballesta for the Fifty Fathoms Tech Gombessa, using a dedicated hand that makes one complete rotation every three hours.
On this new Fifty Fathoms Tech, that hand works with a matching three-hour scale on the bezel, allowing the diver to read extended dive time at a glance rather than mentally converting shorter increments.
The bezel uses a black ceramic insert, while the dedicated dive-time hand is finished in white luminescent material with green emission to separate it clearly from the standard time display.
Absolute black dial and Grade 23 titanium
Legibility is the core visual story here, not decoration.
The dial uses Blancpain’s absolute black finish, designed to absorb around 97 percent of incoming light, which helps the applied indications stand out with greater contrast.
The hour markers are large and block-like, while the hour and minute hands use orange accents with blue luminescent emission.
That colour separation matters because it lets the wearer distinguish conventional timekeeping from dive timing quickly, especially in low-visibility conditions.
A domed sapphire crystal is used to reduce visual distortion when the dial is read from different angles underwater.
The case measures 47 mm across and 14.8 mm thick, so this is not a discreet desk diver pretending to be something smaller.
Blancpain has chosen Grade 23 titanium, also known as Grade 5 ELI, a material valued for strength, low weight and hypoallergenic properties.
The lower section of the case middle is bevelled rather than shaped in the more traditional rounded bassine style found on other Fifty Fathoms models, giving the watch a more contemporary technical profile.
Water resistance is rated to 30 bar, or approximately 300 metres, and a helium escape valve is integrated into the case for saturation diving environments.
Calibre 13P5A and a practical strap system
The automatic Calibre 13P5A is visible through the sapphire caseback.
It comprises 226 components and 35 jewels, runs at 4 Hz and offers a substantial 120-hour power reserve.
The movement also includes a silicon balance spring, a date display and Blancpain’s secured movement system.
An anthracite-coloured openworked oscillating weight gives a broad view of the calibre beneath, adding a mechanical counterpoint to the watch’s otherwise tool-led character.
The Fifty Fathoms Tech is delivered on a black rubber strap attached directly to the central lugs by screws.
The strap is reinforced internally with titanium for long-term stability, and an extension system allows it to fit over a technical diving suit.
Blancpain has also introduced a tool-free interchangeable strap system for this model, with black, white and orange rubber strap options.
