Blancpain gives Villeret a more intimate 38mm profile

Blancpain’s Villeret line has gained six new references, and the quietest change may be the one collectors notice first.

The new 38mm Villeret Ultraplate brings the collection closer to the restrained proportions that helped define Blancpain’s modern classical identity.

There’s also a first for the family, with a salmon dial joining Villeret for the first time, alongside two new 29.2mm Phases de Lune models that keep one of the manufacture’s most recognisable complications firmly in view.

Villeret has never needed to shout, which is precisely why the move to 38mm feels well judged.

The modern Ultraplate has typically lived around 40mm, but Blancpain’s classical dress-watch language has deep roots in smaller proportions.

The Complete Calendar Moonphase that became central to Blancpain’s early 1980s revival measured 34mm, a reminder that Villeret’s authority has long come from balance rather than scale.

At 8.35mm thick, the new Ultraplate keeps the elegance expected of the name while offering a size that should sit comfortably on a wider range of wrists.

The design also carries Blancpain’s updated 2025 details, including revised gold hour markers, the modern JB monogram at 12 o’clock and a date window at 3 o’clock.

A salmon dial enters Villeret without excess

The salmon dial will draw attention because it’s new to Villeret, but Blancpain has handled the colour with restraint.

In stainless steel, the warm sunburst dial is matched with black-treated 18k gold numerals and an anthracite nubuck strap, keeping the watch formal without becoming predictable.

It’s joined by a steel model with a gold-toned opaline dial, an 18k red-gold version and a boutique-exclusive steel-and-yellow-gold reference on an olive-green strap.

All four 38mm Ultraplate models use the automatic Blancpain Calibre 1150, a slim movement with a 100-hour power reserve, silicon hairspring and 3 Hz frequency.

The result is a practical dress watch that doesn’t lean on novelty, even when the dial colour gives the family a noticeably warmer presence.

The moonphase remains a Blancpain signature

The two new Villeret Phases de Lune references continue a complication closely tied to Blancpain’s modern identity.

Each 29.2mm model is diamond-set and offered in either stainless steel or 18k red gold, with a gold-toned opaline dial, diamond hour markers and a pointer date indicated by a blue serpentine hand.

The smiling moonphase has been part of Blancpain’s visual vocabulary since the early 1980s, when the brand placed traditional mechanical watchmaking at the centre of its comeback.

That decision mattered because it arrived at a moment when the Swiss industry was still reckoning with the quartz crisis and mechanical watchmaking no longer looked inevitable.

Under Jean-Claude Biver and Jacques Piguet, Blancpain used calendar and moonphase displays to make a case for mechanical craft, and Villeret became one of the clearest expressions of that position.

The new Phases de Lune models aren’t radical, but they don’t need to be.

They reinforce the continuity of a collection that has always treated refinement as a discipline rather than a styling exercise.
