Atelier Wen’s Inflection has become one of the more compelling modern watch designs to emerge from China, not because it leans on novelty, but because it treats craft and manufacturing as equally serious subjects.
For Geneva Watch Days 2026, the brand has joined New York’s Massena LAB for the Inflection Shuò, a 50-piece limited edition that sharpens that idea through Swiss dial craft, Chinese calligraphy and a fully tantalum case and bracelet.
The result is a watch that feels deliberately cross-cultural without reducing either side of the equation to decoration.

Gold dials with a split personality
The name Shuò comes from the Chinese character 烁, often translated as sparkling, glittering or radiant, and it’s a fitting name for a dial built around hand tremblage.
Both versions use solid 18k gold dial construction, with the main plate worked by hand to create a field of tiny, irregular facets that catch light in a quieter, more textured way than conventional finishing.
The tremblage is executed by hand engraving specialist Coralie Mercier for GT Cadrans, using a graver across the gold surface while the dial is continuously oscillated.
It’s a demanding process, and the visual appeal comes from its lack of machine-perfect repetition.
The edition is divided into two executions.
Ten pieces feature an all-white-gold dial and are reserved for established clients of either brand, while 40 pieces combine white gold and rose gold and are open to public orders.
On top of the tremblaged dial plate sits a radially brushed hour sector, rendered in either white gold or rose gold depending on the variant.
The layout has a California-dial influence, but Atelier Wen and Massena LAB have pushed the idea into a more specific cultural dialogue.
Hours 10 through 2 use custom serif Arabic numerals, while hours 4 through 8 use Chinese numerals commissioned by Atelier Wen and rendered in calligraphic form.
The numerals are filled in blue, matching the blued-steel hour, minute and seconds hands.
A finely engraved huiwen border frames the outer sector, adding a classical Chinese motif without overwhelming the dial.
Atelier Wen appears at 12 o’clock in blue, while Massena sits more discreetly near 6 o’clock in white gold.
Tantalum gives the Inflection its weight
The warmth and texture of the dial is set against the cooler tone of a 99.9 percent tantalum case and integrated bracelet.
Tantalum is admired for its dense feel, anti-corrosive qualities and deep blue-grey cast, but it’s also notoriously difficult to machine and finish.
That challenge is amplified by the Inflection’s case architecture.
The 40mm case is almost entirely curved, drawing on Chinese architectural forms rather than relying on broad flat planes.
A concave bezel, ridged midcase and sculpted bracelet give the watch a strong sense of depth, while the finishing alternates between vertical brushing, mirror polishing and polished concave chamfers.
The bracelet’s external links are vertically brushed, the central links are mirror polished, and the transitions between surfaces are part of the visual tension.
Water resistance is rated to 100 metres.
The screw-down crown is executed in tantalum on the White Gold variant and rose gold on the Rose Gold variant.
A customised Girard-Perregaux calibre
Inside the Inflection Shuò is a customised Girard-Perregaux GP03300 automatic calibre.
The movement’s architecture has been adapted to echo wind motifs found in historical Chinese painting, a visual counterpoint to the density of the tantalum case.
The bridges are ruthenium plated and finished with pronounced anglage, sharp exterior angles and laser-etched waved côtes that radiate from the centre of the movement.
Black-polished screws and a 5N rose gold-plated rotor continue the dark, warm and metallic palette established by the rest of the watch.
The calibre uses 27 jewels, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a 48-hour power reserve.

It presents Atelier Wen’s Chinese design language through demanding Swiss decorative craft, then anchors the whole exercise in a difficult modern case metal and a serious Swiss automatic movement.
