Albishorn Type X-Graph Reimagines the Pre-Type 20 Pilot Chronograph

Albishorn has built its young identity around watches that feel as if they were pulled from an alternate chapter of military timekeeping.

The Type X-Graph continues that idea with a convincing fictional premise, imagining a pilot’s chronograph prototype from 1948, before the Type 20 watches that would later become central to French military aviation watch history.

Its real hook is a translucent anthracite dial that keeps the instrument-like character of the Type 10 family while allowing the movement to ghost through from beneath.

The Type X-Graph sits within the same created military universe as Albishorn’s earlier Maxigraph, Marinagraph, Thundergraph and Type 10 models.

Founder Sébastien Chaulmontet and designer Fabien Collioud have again leaned into the idea of a watch that never entered history, but looks plausible enough to make you pause.

Here, the story points to post-war experimentation with transparent materials such as Plexiglas and Lucite during the 1930s and 1940s.

Rather than using transparency as a purely modern design trick, Albishorn gives the dial the form and texture of a traditional instrument panel while letting the mechanics sit just below the surface.

The fumé anthracite polycarbonate dial can look almost black in some light, then shift toward smoky grey as the skeletonised dial-side movement becomes more visible.

That changing effect suits the watch’s invented prototype character, especially because the movement doesn’t dominate the dial as much as it appears to merge with it.

A left-side monopusher with real wrist presence

The stainless steel case measures 39mm across, 47.7mm lug to lug and 12mm thick including the box sapphire crystal.

Satin brushing, polished bevels and a compact profile keep it closer to a purposeful aviation instrument than a dressy vintage homage.

The gunmetal PVD-coated steel bezel is slightly larger than the case at 41.7mm and carries an engraved 60-minute scale with lacquer-filled markings and Super-LumiNova.

The layout is one of Albishorn’s most recognisable signatures.

The crown is placed at 10:30, while the large red anodised aluminium monopusher is integrated into the left side of the case for thumb operation.

That single pusher starts, stops and resets the chronograph, giving the watch a different physical rhythm from conventional two-pusher chronographs.

The dial architecture also avoids the usual horizontal subdial arrangement.

Running seconds sit at 4:30, the 30-minute chronograph counter is placed at 7:30, and the patented operating indicator at 12 o’clock shows black, red or white depending on whether the chronograph is reset, running or stopped.

Large luminous Arabic numerals and white-painted Super-LumiNova hands preserve legibility, which matters on a watch with this much visual depth.

Calibre ALB04 M and limited production

Inside is Albishorn’s proprietary hand-wound calibre ALB04 M, a monopusher chronograph movement developed with Sellita from the SW510M Mp and rooted in the 7750 architecture.

The movement is COSC-certified, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a 65-hour power reserve.

It has also been developed to stay slim at 5.7mm, helping the watch remain wearable despite the added presence of the box sapphire crystal.

Albishorn will offer the Type X-Graph with black and taupe leather straps, while a steel bracelet will be available as an option.

Production is limited to 99 pieces over three years, with online sales scheduled to begin on May 29, 2026.

It’s not trying to be a museum reissue, and that’s the point: Albishorn’s latest chronograph uses invention, proportion and a clever dial treatment to make its imagined past feel unusually tangible.
