Ressence has always treated time display as something that can be redesigned from first principles.
The Type 10 DN, nicknamed Dark Knight, feels like one of the brand’s clearest expressions yet, with its oil-filled display, dark blue titanium case and integrated strap working toward the impression of a single continuous object.
It’s a watch for collectors who already understand the appeal of Ressence’s rotating-disc language, but want it in a more resolved, more sculptural form.

At a glance
- Ressence has introduced the Type 10 DN Dark Knight, an oil-filled model limited to 100 pieces.
- The watch uses the patented ROCS 10 module driven by the in-house calibre RW-04, with hours, minutes, second time zone, oil temperature indication and a 120-second runner.
- It is priced at CHF 45,000 excluding taxes and comes in a polished grade 5 titanium case on an integrated rubber strap.
A darker take on Ressence’s rotating-disc language
Founded in 2010 by Benoît Mintiens, Ressence built its identity around a display system that replaces conventional hands with regulator-style rotating discs.
That idea remains central to the Type 10 DN, but the watch pushes the language into a more monolithic direction.
Mintiens describes the design intention as something that should feel “as if it is one seamless object,” adding that it should appear “almost as if you took a piece of material and carved the watch out of it.”

The polished grade 5 titanium case is finished in dark blue and measures 41.5mm, with broad lugs that give the watch a sportier stance.
The integrated rubber strap continues the visual line of the case, while a DLC-coated titanium buckle keeps the darker palette intact.
Oil-filled clarity with mechanical separation
The purpose of Ressence’s oil-filled construction is legibility, creating the impression that the display sits directly beneath the crystal.

The Type 10 DN doesn’t fill the entire watch with oil.
Instead, the ROCS display system operates in oil, while the mechanical movement remains in air inside a separate hermetically sealed chamber.
The connection between the two sides is handled magnetically, with a disc carrying micro-magnets on the movement side mirrored by a similar disc on the oil-filled side.

It’s a characteristically Ressence solution, keeping the mechanical calibre isolated while allowing the display to move with the visual smoothness that defines the brand.
The watch also includes an oil temperature indication, a practical detail because the liquid can expand or contract with changing conditions.
A 120-second running indicator is also present, and it doubles as a shock absorber within the movement architecture.
A step in the brand’s technical maturation
The Type 10 DN arrives as Ressence continues to develop its own technical platform, moving beyond the earlier ETA ébauches that previously powered its ROCS-equipped watches.
Here, the patented ROCS 10 module is driven by the manually wound in-house calibre RW-04, with a stated power reserve of 60 hours.
The result is still unmistakably Ressence, but it feels less like an experiment in display design and more like a fully integrated watch concept.
That matters because Ressence’s appeal has never been only about novelty.
At its best, the brand makes the act of reading time feel unusually calm, almost digital in clarity but entirely mechanical in execution.

The Type 10 DN Dark Knight won’t be for everyone, and that’s part of the point.
For the collector drawn to Ressence’s particular mix of mechanical ingenuity and pared-back futurism, it looks like one of the brand’s most complete statements yet.
