Porsche Brings Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto to Modern Classic 911, Boxster and Cayman Models

Porsche is making one of its most appealing modern-classic upgrades available to a wider group of owners.

The latest Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus system brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to selected 911, Boxster and Cayman models built from 2009 to 2016, while keeping the dashboard looking appropriately factory.

For cars that are now old enough to feel analogue but new enough to be used often, it’s a quietly significant update.

The new PCCM Plus range is aimed at more than 300,000 Porsche sports cars that sit in a particularly interesting part of the brand’s timeline.

Porsche has addressed that gap with two model-specific units for the second-generation 997 and 987 models, along with the 981-generation Boxster and Cayman and the first-generation 991.

The headline upgrade is wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, operating through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

That immediately changes day-to-day usability, especially for drivers who rely on phone-based navigation, streaming audio and hands-free communication.

The system is built around a seven-inch high-resolution touchscreen, but Porsche has also retained integration with factory controls where possible.

Cars fitted with a multifunction steering wheel can use it to operate relevant functions, while navigation prompts and music information can be shown in the instrument cluster.

Owners can select their car’s exterior colour for the virtual vehicle shown on the screen, a touch that makes the system feel more like a Porsche component than a generic retrofit.

Entertainment and installation details

When the car is stationary, YouTube playback is available where local regulations allow it.

It’s a feature aimed more at waiting time than driving pleasure, but it reflects how far in-car infotainment expectations have moved since these cars were new.

Porsche recommends that the system is installed through an authorised Porsche Centre.

That guidance makes sense for owners who want the upgrade to behave like a factory system and preserve the integrity of the interior electronics.
