Nomos Gives the Ahoi Neomatik Sand and Sky a Cleaner 36mm Case

Nomos has taken one of its most relaxed sport-watch ideas and made it easier to wear.

The Ahoi Neomatik Sand and Sky now arrive in a 36.3mm case, with the date removed and the proportions tightened without losing the collection’s aquatic credentials.

It’s a small shift on paper, but it gives these colourful Ahoi models a noticeably cleaner personality.

The new Sand and Sky 36 models reduce the Ahoi Neomatik case from 38.5mm to 36.3mm, a size that should suit a wider range of wrists.

Nomos keeps the case slim, too, at 9mm with a solid back or 9.1mm with the sapphire display back.

The Ahoi remains the brand’s sportier counterpoint to the Tangente, with a polished stainless steel case, integrated crown guards and a screw-down crown.

Water resistance is rated to 200 metres, so this is still a watch made for swimming, watersports and recreational diving rather than a dress watch in nautical colours.

A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides sits over the dial, while the caseback is secured by six screws.

Sand and Sky look better without the date

The most meaningful visual change is the absence of a date window.

On the earlier larger models, the date sat at 3 o’clock, but its removal gives these 36mm references a more composed dial layout.

The Sand version uses a warm beige-toned dial with a lightly textured feel, giving the watch a softer, sun-bleached character.

The Sky model moves in the opposite direction with a pale blue dial, a colour that feels bright without becoming loud.

Both versions use white Super-LumiNova markers near the minute track, rhodium-plated hands with luminous inserts and a small seconds register at 6 o’clock.

The orange seconds hand remains a neat Nomos touch, adding just enough contrast to keep the watch from feeling too restrained.

The DUW 3001 keeps the profile slim

Inside both watches is the Nomos DUW 3001, the manufacture’s thin automatic calibre measuring just 3.2mm in height.

The movement runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers up to 43 hours of power reserve.

It also uses the brand’s in-house Swing System escapement and includes a stop-seconds function for more precise time setting.

With the sapphire back, the movement shows classic Glashütte finishing, including ribbing, perlage, tempered blue screws and a three-quarter plate.

The watches are delivered on waterproof woven textile straps, light grey for Sand and blue-black for Sky, with a pin buckle.

A steel bracelet is also offered as an option for buyers who want a more substantial everyday setup.
