Mercedes-AMG has moved its GT badge into new electric territory with the debut of the AMG GT SUV.
It’s the brand’s first high-performance electric SUV, and it arrives with the kind of numbers that make clear AMG isn’t treating electrification as a softer brief.
The headline car is the GT63 SUV, a tri-motor flagship rated at 1,153 hp, but the broader story is a three-model line-up built around the new AMG.EA platform and 800-volt electrical architecture.

At a glance
- Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its first high-performance electric SUV, named the AMG GT SUV.
- The GT55 and GT63 use a tri-motor all-wheel-drive setup, with the GT63 rated at 1,153 hp and 1,475 lb-ft.
- The range includes GT53, GT55 and GT63 trims, with claimed range of up to 700 miles on the GT55 and GT63 under WLTP figures.
AMG.EA brings the GT SUV into the electric fold
The AMG GT SUV is based on the AMG.EA platform, paired with an 800-volt electrical architecture.
That positioning matters because this isn’t simply an electric SUV wearing AMG trim.
It sits within the same performance conversation as the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, sharing its powertrain direction while applying it to a taller, more practical body style.

Every version uses all-wheel drive, while the GT55 and GT63 step up to a tri-motor layout.
Three outputs, one very serious flagship
The entry point is the GT53 SUV, which uses a 106 kWh battery and is rated at 536 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.
Mercedes-AMG lists its 0-60 mph time at 4.1 seconds, with a top speed of 143 mph.

The GT55 SUV brings a substantial jump in output, pairing a 128 kWh battery with 805 hp and 1,372 lb-ft of torque.
That version is rated at 3.0 seconds from 0-60 mph and a 168 mph top speed.
At the top of the range, the GT63 SUV produces 1,153 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque.
Its claimed 0-60 mph time is 2.6 seconds, while top speed matches the GT55 at 168 mph.
A familiar AMG face on a new silhouette
The design stays close to AMG’s current performance language rather than chasing a minimalist EV look.
Up front, the AMG GT SUV uses a typical AMG grille with chrome elements, L-shaped headlights and a large lower air dam with vertical strakes.
Additional cooling vents sit at the sides, giving the nose a functional, heavily worked appearance.
The hood is sculpted and retains the distinctive slot first seen on the latest AMG GT 4-Door Coupe.
Along the side, the SUV has a smooth shoulder line, flush-fitting door handles and flared rear fenders.
The rear fascia is also drawn from the GT 4-Door, reinforcing the link between the two electric performance models.
Cabin layout follows AMG’s screen-led formula
Inside, the AMG GT SUV follows a familiar modern AMG arrangement.
The cabin features a digital instrument cluster, a central touchscreen and a third display for the front passenger.
That three-screen layout gives the SUV a suitably tech-forward cabin without moving too far from the brand’s current interior vocabulary.

For AMG buyers, the GT SUV is significant because it brings the brand’s electric performance ambitions into the SUV space without abandoning the visual attitude and acceleration figures expected from the badge.
It won’t appeal to anyone looking for subtlety, but that has rarely been the point of a modern AMG flagship.
