MeisterSinger Brings Grand Feu Enamel Into Colour With the Edition Unitas 1Z Blue

MeisterSinger has built its identity around a deliberately calmer way of reading time, and the Edition Unitas 1Z Blue leans into that philosophy with unusual confidence.

The new limited edition keeps the hand-wound, vintage-leaning character of the anniversary Edition Unitas 1Z, but gives the watch a significant first for the German brand: a coloured grand feu enamel dial.

For collectors who already understand MeisterSinger’s single-hand language, this is a more refined and more distinctive expression of a familiar idea.

The key shift here is the dial, which moves MeisterSinger’s enamel work beyond white for the first time.

The light blue surface is made using traditional grand feu enamel techniques, with finely ground enamel powder applied to a copper base and fired repeatedly at temperatures close to 800°C.

That process gives the dial a depth and luminosity that printed colour alone can’t really imitate, particularly on a watch with such a clean and open layout.

MeisterSinger keeps its familiar display architecture intact, with double-digit hour numerals, a peripheral track and a single central hand rather than conventional hour and minute hands.

Time is read to roughly five-minute precision, which has always been part of the brand’s appeal rather than a compromise.

Black numerals anchor the dial, medium-blue markings indicate 30-minute intervals and elapsed minutes on the inner scale, while small red accents add just enough contrast.

The long heat-blued steel hand ties neatly into the dial colour without making the watch feel overly decorative.

A compact case built around a pocket-watch calibre

The Edition Unitas 1Z Blue uses the same 40mm stainless steel case developed for this collection.

It combines brushed case sides with a polished bezel and polished lugs, a mix that gives the watch a classical outline without becoming overly formal.

The fluted crown is deliberately generous, which makes sense on a manual-wind watch and suits the old-world character of the Unitas movement inside.

MeisterSinger’s fermata emblem appears on the crown, while sapphire crystals are fitted front and back.

The exhibition caseback is individually numbered and gives a full view of the movement, with water resistance rated at 50 metres.

The Unitas movement remains the right fit

Inside is the manually wound ETA/Unitas 6497, a movement originally conceived for pocket watches.

Its large diameter is part of the charm here, as it fills the case in a way many smaller wristwatch calibres simply wouldn’t.

For this edition, MeisterSinger has dressed the movement with Geneva stripes, blued screws and a traditional swan-neck fine-adjustment regulator.

The calibre runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers an approximate power reserve of 46 hours.

It’s not an ultra-modern movement proposition, but that’s hardly the point of this watch.

The appeal lies in the combination of tactile winding, visible mechanics and a dial that asks the wearer to slow down rather than chase the second hand.
