Louis Vuitton’s Monterey has always been one of the maison’s more intriguing watch designs, less conventional wristwatch than polished object with a point of view.
The new Monterey Ceramic brings that idea back into the permanent collection, pairing the rounded 37mm case with lacquer dials and an in-house automatic movement.
The pair made an early public appearance at Pharrell Williams’ Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring/Summer 2027 show in Paris, where the watches were styled as charms, though the design makes far more sense once it’s back on the wrist.

Aulenti’s pebble shape returns to ceramic
The Monterey story begins in 1988, when Louis Vuitton launched its first wristwatches under the LV I and LV II names.
They were designed with Italian architect and designer Gae Aulenti and manufactured by IWC, giving the project a level of design credibility that still feels unusual in fashion-led watchmaking.
The LV I carried the smooth, lugless gold pebble profile that Louis Vuitton revisited in yellow gold last year, while the LV II explored ceramic at a time when the material was still relatively new in watch cases.
That context matters because ceramic wasn’t yet the familiar luxury-watch material it is today.
The LV II’s glossy black and forest green ceramic cases sat alongside a small group of early ceramic experiments from major names, helping make the watch feel sharper and more forward-looking than its simple shape might suggest.
Black and green take two different moods
The new Monterey Ceramic keeps the essential codes intact rather than overworking the revival.
The case remains 37mm across, with the crown positioned at 12 o’clock and the rounded form left free of lugs.
Louis Vuitton has removed visual clutter from the dial, putting the focus on the pebble silhouette, syringe hands and graphic numerals.
The crown now carries Clous de Paris knurling, a small but useful update that adds tactility to a watch whose case is otherwise intentionally smooth.
There are two versions, and they don’t read the same way.
The green model is the more tonal and contemporary of the pair, with a polished green ceramic case, green lacquered dial, white indexes, a white railway-track minute ring and yellow lacquered syringe hands.
The black ceramic model leans closer to the historic Monterey palette, using white, black, red and blue for a crisper, more graphic expression.
Both watches are matched to calf leather straps, with either black or green leather and a steel pin buckle engraved with the Louis Vuitton signature.
La Fabrique du Temps brings the watch in-house
The most important mechanical change sits inside the case.
Where the 1988 LV II used a quartz movement, the Monterey Ceramic now runs on Louis Vuitton’s self-winding Caliber LFTMA01.02.
The movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers 45 hours of power reserve, giving the watch a more serious mechanical footing without changing the easy charm of the design.
Louis Vuitton is also emphasizing the level of internal watchmaking behind the piece.
The ceramic case, lacquered dial and manufacture movement sit within the orbit of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, which gives this Monterey a clearer place in the maison’s modern watch strategy.

The Monterey Ceramic works because it doesn’t try to turn a distinctive design into something broader or safer.
It’s still compact, smooth, slightly eccentric and unmistakably Louis Vuitton, now with the ceramic finish and in-house mechanics to make the comeback feel properly considered.
