Lexus is trimming the powertrain menu for its three-row TX SUV in 2027, and the biggest omission is the plug-in hybrid.
The TX 550h+ will not return after the 2026 model year, leaving the range with a conventional petrol model and a regular hybrid. It’s a notable shift for a family-focused SUV that briefly offered one of the brand’s more flexible electrified setups.
At a glance
- Lexus will discontinue the TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid after the 2026 model year.
- The 2027 TX lineup will continue with the TX 350 petrol model and the TX 500h hybrid.
- The TX 500h remains the electrified choice, using electric motors to provide all-wheel drive.
A simpler three-row SUV range
The TX arrived as Lexus’s larger three-row SUV aimed at buyers who want proper passenger space without moving into the brand’s body-on-frame SUV territory.

For 2027, Lexus is simplifying that pitch by reducing the TX powertrain lineup from three choices to two.
The outgoing TX 550h+ was the most electrified version of the SUV, pairing plug-in hybrid technology with the TX’s family-oriented packaging.
It was introduced for the 2024 model year, which makes its exit after 2026 a relatively short run in the lineup.

What remains under the bonnet
The TX 350 continues as the conventional option, using a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
For buyers who still want electrification, the TX 500h remains in the range as the hybrid model.
That version also uses the 2.4-litre engine, but adds a 64kW front electric motor and a 76kW rear eAxle.
Together, that hardware forms the TX 500h’s all-wheel-drive system, and the hybrid is offered exclusively with all-wheel drive.
The plug-in hybrid gap
The decision removes the TX’s only plug-in option, which matters for buyers who valued the ability to run some journeys on external-charge electric power while keeping the practicality of a large three-row Lexus.
Lexus is still keeping a level of electrification in the TX lineup, but the character of the range changes without the 550h+.
The 2027 model year also brings a modest refresh to the rest of the lineup, though the key powertrain story is the move away from three choices.
