Doxa’s SUB 300 Ti5 Clive Cussler Brings Titanium to the Classic Diver

Doxa’s long-running connection with Clive Cussler has produced some of the brand’s more characterful modern dive watches, and the newest edition takes the idea into more technical territory.

The SUB 300 Ti5 Clive Cussler pairs the familiar cushion-shaped diver with a full Grade 5 titanium case and a newly constructed layered dial, marking a first for the SUB 300 line.

It arrives as a 300-piece limited edition, tied to what would have been Cussler’s 95th birthday.

The case is the most consequential change here, because this is the first SUB 300 to use a full Grade 5 titanium construction.

At 42.5mm across, 45mm lug-to-lug and 13.4mm thick, it keeps the proportions of the standard SUB 300 while cutting down the wrist weight that can come with a robust 300-metre diver.

Titanium makes sense for this format, offering a useful balance of strength, corrosion resistance and lightness without moving the watch away from its tool-watch character.

The familiar Doxa bezel remains in place, with the outer depth scale and inner dive-time scale giving the watch its recognisable technical layout.

The dial is where Doxa has made the more expressive move.

Rather than using a conventional single dial with applied luminous markers, the SUB 300 Ti5 Clive Cussler uses two superimposed Grade 5 titanium dial plates.

The upper dial is laser-cut, exposing the layer below and creating a relief effect across the hour and minute track.

Only the main hour positions are lumed, so the display relies on depth, shadow and contrast as much as it does on luminous material.

The sandblasted grey finish gives the watch a matte, almost instrument-like surface, while the orange minute hand and matching bezel depth markings keep it unmistakably Doxa.

There’s also a small personal nod to Cussler in the date display, where the numerals 15, 7 and 31 appear in orange as a reference to his date of birth.

Chronometer movement and broader availability

Inside is the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement in COSC-certified chronometer form.

It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 38-hour power reserve, with central hours, minutes and seconds plus a date at 3 o’clock.

The power reserve is modest by current standards, but chronometer certification gives this edition a level of tested reliability that suits a professional-style diver.

The watch is fitted to a black Dive Flex rubber strap with a pin buckle, drawing on the practical strap language of 1960s dive watches.

Doxa is limiting the model to 300 pieces, and this Clive Cussler edition will be available not only through the brand but also through authorised retailers.

A portion of proceeds supports the National Underwater and Marine Agency, the marine exploration organisation founded by Cussler.

The SUB 300 Ti5 Clive Cussler works because its commemorative elements don’t overwhelm the watch itself.

It’s still a compact, serious Doxa diver, but the lighter titanium case and architectural dial give this edition a distinct identity within a familiar silhouette.
