BMW’s latest update for the 7 Series puts the spotlight on a less dramatic but more meaningful kind of progress.
The electric i7 now travels farther between charges, yet the battery capacity remains broadly unchanged at around 112kWh.
For a luxury sedan built around silence, space and long-distance ease, finding extra range through efficiency matters more than simply adding weight.

At a glance
- The updated BMW i7 50 xDrive now offers up to 728 km of WLTP range.
- BMW has kept the battery at around 112kWh, pointing to gains from drivetrain and energy management efficiency.
- In Singapore, the updated BMW i7 is priced at $709,888 inclusive of COE, while the 735 M Sport is priced at $684,888 inclusive of COE.
More distance from the same battery footprint
The BMW i7 50 xDrive now produces 335 kW, or 449 hp, and 660 Nm of torque.
Its WLTP range has risen to 728 km, equal to 452 miles, which is an increase of 20 km or 12 miles over the previous figure.
That improvement is modest on paper, but it’s notable because BMW hasn’t leaned on a substantially larger battery to achieve it.

The pack remains around 112kWh, which suggests the gain comes from more careful energy use through the drivetrain, software and wider efficiency management.
BMW also says a 10-minute high-power charging stop can add between 195 km and 235 km of driving range.
For the kind of owner who uses an i7 as a cross-city executive car during the week and a long-range express on weekends, those numbers are more useful than a headline battery increase.
The M70 keeps the performance brief intact
The sharper i7 M70 xDrive sits at the other end of the electric 7 Series range.
It produces 500 kW, or 671 hp, and 1,100 Nm of torque, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds.
BMW quotes up to 686 km of range for the M70 xDrive, which is a strong figure given the extra output and performance focus.
The i7 M70 xDrive is currently not available in Singapore.
Panoramic iDrive reshapes the front cabin
The update also brings BMW’s Panoramic iDrive into the 7 Series cabin.
The system combines a wide Panoramic Vision display with a 17.9-inch central screen and a passenger display.
In a car like the i7, this matters because the digital interface is part of the luxury experience rather than a separate layer of tech.
The 7 Series has long traded on rear-seat comfort and road isolation, but the latest cabin update pushes the front compartment further into the screen-led era.

For BMW’s flagship sedan, the more interesting move is the quieter one, extracting more usable range from the hardware already on board.
