Armin Strom’s Mirrored Force Resonance has always been a watch for people who like to see the hard part happening in plain view.
The new Zeitgeist 1665 3N keeps the same mechanical proposition but changes the mood, replacing the earlier rose gold-coated treatment with a yellow gold tone across the mainplate and bridges.
It’s still a thoroughly contemporary resonance watch, but this version leans further into the historical idea behind the Zeitgeist name.

At a glance
- Armin Strom has introduced the Mirrored Force Resonance Zeitgeist 1665 3N as a 25-piece limited edition.
- The watch uses the brand’s patented resonance clutch with two independent regulating systems visible on the dial side.
- It is priced at CHF 82,000 and comes in a 43mm stainless steel case on a dark grey Alcantara strap.
A gold-toned take on Armin Strom’s resonance architecture
The Zeitgeist 1665 3N is less a new movement than a new interpretation of one of Armin Strom’s defining mechanisms.
The model follows the earlier Zeitgeist 1665 edition, which used rose gold-coated bridges to give the openworked movement an aged, almost historically imagined character.
For the 3N version, the movement’s mainplate and bridges are coloured in yellow gold and finished with a matt surface.

That restrained finish gives the hand-bevelled polished edges and black-polished screws more definition, while making the exposed mechanism feel a little warmer and more classical.
A black polished lacquered chapter ring now sits above the movement to display the hours, minutes and twin seconds.
The darker ring sharpens the contrast with the gold-toned architecture underneath and gives the dial side a more graphic frame.

The resonance idea behind the Zeitgeist 1665
The watch’s name points back to 1665, when Christiaan Huygens observed the synchronisation of two pendulum clocks.
That phenomenon, resonance, later attracted watchmakers including Abraham-Louis Breguet and Antide Janvier, and more recently makers such as F.P. Journe, Vianney Halter and Beat Haldimann.
Armin Strom brought its own solution to market in 2016 with the Mirrored Force Resonance.

Instead of relying only on proximity between two regulators, the system uses a patented resonance clutch to couple two independent regulating systems.
The aim is to let the balance wheels synchronise through resonance while maintaining that behaviour on the wrist.
In this 3N edition, the mechanism remains visually central, with the left side of the skeletonised mainplate opening around the two regulating systems and the clutch that connects them.

Case, finishing and wearing details
The Zeitgeist 1665 3N uses a 43mm stainless steel case measuring 11.5mm high and just under 50mm lug to lug.
The case combines polished flat surfaces with vertically brushed flanks, along with the brand’s signature lip at 6 o’clock in a more restrained form than on older Armin Strom watches.
The watch is paired with a dark grey Alcantara strap with grey stitching.

Inside, the movement runs at 3.5Hz, or 25,200 vibrations per hour, and stores 80 hours of power reserve from two independent barrels.
A flyback mechanism resets both seconds hands simultaneously through a pusher at 10 o’clock.
Armin Strom also describes the watch as being assembled twice, first for function and then for final regulation and verification.
